The People Of Madison Refuse To Be Bystanders To Torture; We Must Impeach The Perpetrators

The Madison Impeachment Coalition and Impeachforpeace.org of Wisconsin are staging a Street Theatre Event Focusing on Torture and Impeachment.

This three day event will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, July 23, 24, and 25 between 11:00am and 1:00pm. in front of the Madison Memorial Library located at 728 State Street.

We intend to make a powerful visual statement that will bring home the ongoing, heinous acts of torture inflicted on thousands of human beings throughout the world in our name.
We hope to raise the specter of torture in the minds of hundreds of Madisonians walking through campus during the lunch hour through images they cannot forget, three days in a row. Dressed in the Guantanamo standard of orange jumpsuits, black hoods and chains, we will be guarded and subjected by “soldiers” in fatigues. Our prisoners will be calling for basic human rights, the rights of Habeas Corpus, the protections of the Geneva Conventions and calling out in pain and fear. We seek to provoke action to stop these crimes and hold the perpetrators accountable.

This administration defied U.S. and International laws against torture, disregarded and subverted the Constitution and our Bill of Rights and shows utter contempt for Human Rights or the will of the American people. The majority of Americans support impeachment.

Our goal is to get as many petition signatures as possible calling for the City Council and the Dane County Board to pass a resolution for impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney to put pressure on Representative Tammy Baldwin and Senator Herb Kohl to sign on to H Res. 333 to commence impeachment investigations against Vice President Cheney; to put pressure on the state assembly and the state senate members to sign on to Representative Frank Boyle’s joint resolution to commence an impeachment investigation against President Bush; to present to the public each municipal body’s decision on impeachment.

Every elected official that does not honor their oath “to support and/or defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic” will be publicized and held accountable. If they wish to be complicit in these crimes, we do not want them to work for us.
