Gonzales Has Resigned, Effective September 17th
Now Congress needs to do a few things:
1. Refuse to confirm a new AG until the White House complies with all subpoenas
2. Recognize what the threat of impeachment achieved in the case of Gonzo
3. Start impeaching Cheney ASAP
10:30 a.m. - CNN is chatting about torture and lie supporter Michael "Hurricane Katrina" Chertoff as a possible replacement. Bush should be impeached for such a proposal.
10:32 a.m. - Gonzo says he will quit September 17th. Let's be clear on one thing: the Justice Dept. will be better off without an AG than with this one. There is no deadline for replacing him. The confirmation process is an opportunity to force the White House to comply with a few laws. Gonzales did not say why he is quitting. I expected him to say he wanted to spend more time with his family.
As Greenwald has been blogging on, Bush may try to leave an interim AG in place indefinitely or more directly make a recess appointment - either way, an action building yet further the case for the urgency of impeachment. Meanwhile, Gonzales does not recall whether he resigned. A former federal prosecutor says this won't save Bush.

DonP Big Whoop. Time for celebration. Another one escapes, no prosecution, no penalties, his policies continue in force and his sucessor gets a free ride until after the election.
It's about time

All the Rats jumping ship?
All the Rats jumping ship? this is a very Bad Sign, Something big must be in the works.
#1 The Dems have already stated they will confirm anyone bush chooses. "without any resistance" wtf? White House comply with all/any subpoenas? Now thats a good one!!
#2 There is and never was any threat of impeachment whatsoever -
The Dem theater has been a total joke, to say the least. All of the worst laws have been passed, everything is now in place... The traitors have completed their part, they are no longer needed. why not resign? and enjoy the fruits of their accomplishments?
#3 Pelosi will not allow impeachment, no matter what.
Better Late than Never!
The only negative in this welcome good news is the realization that "heck of a job Alberto" will never pay any real price for his crimes against the constitution and the fredom and rights of the American people. In fact, just the opposite, he will profit handsomely as a former administration insider, I expect the lucrative job offers are coming in allready; and then there will be his tell all memoirs of his heroic performance as attorney general.
This is another golden opportunity for the Democrats to stand and deliver and hold Bush and company accountable; prepare to be dissappointed once again, as they are all, with one or two exceptions, gutless cowards!.
OF THE DEVIL MOSSAD AGENT CHERTOFF TO BE NEXT AG
mister 'my asshole tells me that we're gonna be under another attack shortly" Chertoff, is the one that bush bastard will install with a wink and a nod from the dinocrats.
as much as we should celebrate this pile of shit's departure, the next pile of feces is much more dangerous and harmful with his Israeli ties than the last dorkus was. make no mistake about it, the fox was in charge of the henhouse, but now we've got another predatory pile of scum about to ascend the throne.
and that's a sad thing for this nation. Mr. Mule Dick Mueller needs to take a hike as well, his personal adherence to fascist dictatorship has hurt this nation more than ever. We need to abolish the F.B.I. and reform what's left of the law enforcement of this nation in a way that backs it off from it's current Stasi/Police State course.
we need to get rid of more than GonzoLost. We need a whole new government, from the top down.

Why stick around a job site when your work is done?
Connect the dotz, see the pattern, kidz . . .

The Federal Reserve "Shadow Board" is scheduled to meet at a C.O.G. site (CONTINUITY OF GOVERNMENT) in Wyoming this week

Why would the THIRD group, Sith Lord Rothschild and his Khazar Mafia, that was financing and sabotaging both sides have to worry?

Hey Frederick
So are you basically saying we should be preparing for Reichstag Emulator, Part II; but that this time it would have to be "nuecahlur", because the punishment will *need* to fit the "crime".
Something like that? God I hope it isn't true.
Hope you have been well.

Hey Frederick
So Frederick are you saying that we should get ready for Reichstag Emulator, part II; but that this time it would have to be "neucahlur" because the punishment will *have* to fit the "crime".
God, I hope it is not so.
Hope you have been well.
Gonzales
This should not stop us from reminding all those that didn't
have time to impeach his bosses but were going to have the time to impeach Gonzales, if he did not resign, the now have extra time!!!!!
Think about it!!!!! In addition, Nancy P (for Pelosi ,,,not imPeachment) should be asked if the threat of indictments (actionable
said Spector) or impeachment in this case made any difference?
Also...she should be asked why impeachment was on the table one
minute (for Gonzales) but somehow off the table at the same time
(for his bosses) are there two Constitutions Ms.P?
Gonzales needs to be investigated...impeachment can still take
place (correct me if I am wrong) this would strip him of a potential
pardon in the event of...a criminal trial!!! What is with this
country and criminals in government...if you or I working
at a gas station were caught on video taking money from the drawer
night after night...do you really think they would just forget about it if we offered to resign? Oh..and make that resignation in just about three more weeks...I'm not quite done?!?! Oh...well.
On a more positive note...GOOD RIDDANCE...one anti-American criminal
down...a few hundred or thousand to go!
IMPEACH REMOVE INDICT !!!
Bush on Gonzales
Bush just commented on Gonzales that it was sad that "his good name was dragged through the mud for political reasons" ? ? ?
I wonder if anyone will ask him if it was sad that Gonzales fired people for political reasons? Or do they parse that as well?
They might insist they were not fired for politcal reasons...but to cover-up crimes!!!
IMPEACH CHENEY DIVIDE..IMPEACH BUSH DIVIDE...now after all the dividing...maybe we will have more parts to fairly distribute!!!

Chertoff: “Radical Ideologies” Threaten Internet

According to Ministry of Homeland Security don Michael Chertoff, “disaffected people living in the US may develop radical ideologies and potentially violent skills over the Internet, something that can present the next major security threat to the nation and to the world,” reports Reuters.
“We now have a capability of someone to radicalize themselves over the Internet,” he told a meeting of the International Association of the Chiefs of Police. “They can train themselves over the Internet. They never have to necessarily go to [a CIA-ISI created] training camp or speak with anybody else and that diffusion of a combination of hatred and technical skills in things like bomb-making is a dangerous combination,” Chertoff said. “Those are the kind of terrorists that we may not be able to detect with spies and satellites.”
In order to combat these supposed miscreants, the Ministry will “deploy 20 field agents this fiscal year into ‘intelligence fusion centers,’ where they [will] work with local police agencies.” So-called “fusion centers” are “collaborative efforts to combine and analyze anti-terrorism information from multiple sources” and “have becoming increasingly popular as part of homeland security,” writes Alice Lipowicz for the IT website, Washington Technology. “A number of states, including Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts and New York, currently operate so-called fusion centers, and many more states, such as Missouri, are considering doing so” and are designed to share “information in the criminal justice community,” although “[c]ivil libertarians have been critical of the fusion centers because they fear a lack of government accountability about protecting privacy and civil rights in the centers’ operation, especially with regard to use of personal data and use of surveillance images,” an obvious concern in light of the massive NSA snoop program.
In regard to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, Chertoff told “a packed audience at Harvard Law School’s Ames Courtoom” yesterday that the “consequences” (i.e., the dismantlement of the Bill of Rights) “have to be measured with real world decisions when deciding on matters that deal with life or death…. Terrorism in real life doesn’t wait until you are done reviewing the evidence,” in other words, our rulers will no longer respect the Fourth Amendment and “probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation” and will dispense with court-issued warrants “describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
Chertoff went on to criticize the “tools” offered by the Constitution because, of course, everything changed after nine eleven. “Before 9/11, the tools that existed had not been fashioned for a war on terror, but on criminal prosecution,” in other words, extraconstitutional “tools,” such as illegal wiretapping and massive snooping, including neighborhood “fusion centers,” at variance with more than eight hundred years of common law, are required. “According to Chertoff, Al Qaeda shares similar characteristics with conventional wartime enemies because both have clearly defined political aims, attempt to acquire territory, and are able to inflict damage of wide scope—’three fundamental elements of the current struggle that put it in war,’ Chertoff said,” reports the Harvard Crimson. Never mind that few can find bona fide “al-Qaeda” terrorists, plots alleged to exist invariably turn out to be bogus or intelligence contrived frame-ups, and not one American citizen has died as a result of a terrorist attack since September 11, 2001 (and, in fact, the government is unable and unwilling to conclusively prove that attack was an “al-Qaeda” terrorist attack).
As the Bush White House averred a few weeks ago, the neocons “will seek ultimately to deny the Internet to the terrorists as an effective safehaven for their propaganda, proselytizing, recruitment, fund-raising, training, and operational planning,” as the internet is a “cyber safehaven” (sort of like a cave in Afghanistan). “Our enemies use the Internet to develop and disseminate propaganda, recruit new members, raise and transfer funds, train members on weapons use and tactics, and plan operations. Terrorist organizations can use virtual safehavens based anywhere in the world, regardless of where their members or operatives are located. Use of the Internet, however, creates opportunities for us to exploit. To counter terrorist use of the Internet as a virtual sanctuary, we will discredit terrorist propaganda by promoting truthful and peaceful messages.”
It should be noted that Chertoff did not preface his comments about “disaffected people” harboring “radical ideologies” with the phrase “al-Qaeda,” as obviously the government considers far more than your run-of-the-mill al-Qaedaite as a “terrorist” hiding out in a “virtual sanctuary.” For as NBC revealed last December, “the U.S. military has stepped up intelligence collection inside this country since 9/11, which now includes the monitoring of peaceful anti-war and counter-military recruitment groups.”
During the Vietnam War, Christopher Pyle, a former Army intelligence officer, “blew the whistle on the Defense Department for monitoring and infiltrating anti-war and civil rights protests when he published an article in the Washington Monthly in January 1970,” NBC notes. A secret 400-page Defense Department document obtained by NBC News “tell me that military intelligence is back conducting investigations and maintaining records on civilian political activity. The military made promises that it would not do this again,” Pyle told NBC.
As the Church Committee (the United States Senate Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities, 1975) revealed, the CIA, regardless of its charter against domestic activity, created a database on 1.5 million Americans, while the FBI created files on over a million citizens; the FBI carried out five hundred thousand investigations of so-called subversives from 1960 to 1974, without a single court conviction; computers in the NSA monitored every cable sent overseas, or received, by Americans from 1947 to 1975 (and still does, with remarkably increased efficiency); Army intelligence units conducted investigations against one hundred thousand American citizens during the Vietnam War era; the FBI COINTELPRO targeted civil rights activists and Vietnam War dissidents; the IRS allowed tax information to be misused by intelligence agencies for political purposes; intelligence agencies carried out burglaries in the homes and offices of activists; and the CIA infiltrated religious, media, and academic organizations (see America’s Secret War: The CIA in a Democratic Society, by Loch K. Johnson, Oxford University Press,1989).
“Given the power granted to the office of the presidency and the unaccountability of the intelligence agencies, widespread illegal domestic operations are certain. We as a people should remember history and not repeat it,” writes Verne Lyon, a former CIA undercover operative.
However, as a people, we not only have a bad case of amnesia, we are also easily frightened by phantoms. No doubt many will be alarmed by Chertoff’s nameless, and thus all-purpose, “disaffected” virtual terrorists who follow ill-defined “radical ideologies” on the internet.
It was no accident Chertoff left “al-Qaeda” out of the equation.

Chertoff
Chertoff defended a guy I believe his name is Al Masri who is a money man for terrorists, '93 Trade Tower bombing, and he has Israeli citizenship. I have nothing against Israeli citizenship but I don't think one should be Sec. of Homeland Security or A.G. if you have citizenship in another country ,one alegance is enough and it should be to America. This also goes for Rahm Emanuel. I am an immigrant but have one country ,this one.
Opportunity Here re: refusal on subpoenas
support@informamerica.net Your statements on the refusal to confirm the new AG until subpoenas are complied with have great merit. There must be some way to deal with the war crazy super emergency W.House gang who thumb their noses at rules of law.
I don't think it would be asking or requiring too much from regime to require this and not confirm ANY new Bush-Cheney appointees until this is done.
Also I have no doubt Bush will whine that this is unfair and will moan that it's "politics", but that is only an indication of his usual blanket rejections and objections to whatever. Remember when he was campaigning and kept repeating how his opponent was "not in the political mainstream" and you easily see the late great Ayn Rand's "argument from intimidation", and "rule by the consensus", which the bereft Bush must fall back on.
America would be better off if Gonzo left immediately and not wait until Sept. 17th, and prosecution should begin immediately against him, a con who was in league with those who suspend Americans' most basic right of Habeus Corpus.,Thanks, joe martin, www.informamerica.net
After The Flood
Today was really a weird day for me.
I was happy AG had resigned, for about 5 minutes.
Then I sunk into despair. With all the "front men" gone and still unaccounted for ( Rove, Rumsfeld, Card, etc... ) we are left to deal point blank with the horror of what has really happened.
I am still trying ( yet again ) to get my brain around it and am sort of falling down on that score.
What has happened in Iraq is quickly turning in the GREATEST SLAUGHTER IN HUMAN HISTORY, think about that for minute.
This is truly genocide, and with 80% of Iraqi's with drinking water, I t cannot be much longer before that region is completely devastated, laid waste, just RAISED to the ground.
There will be plenty of imported Insurgents to fight indefinitely, but the innocent people who had the misfortune to inhabit the region between the Tigris and Euphrates will be exterminated.
This is GENOCIDE. And the government is doing nothing, except preparing for more of the same AGAIN.
How do these people live with themselves? How can anyone function in this country, knowing what is going on?
I mean it is truly vertiginous. I was walking around downtown DC today, and you never know that there was a war, illegal occupation, Genocide occurring on our dime. There is no reference to it, ANYWHERE.
I thought I could count on Congress, the dems, someone to see the good and stop the evil. Now just see it as one horrible and remarkably cruel joke.
I thought we were the good guys, at least at one time. I know we have *NEVER* been this bad.
And from all the "well-groomed, functional" yuppies walking around today, you kinda get the feeling that no one gives a shit so long as ESPN is on.
Hey Resonator
You are not alone...there are a lot of us who are disgusted
beyond belief with the situation in Iraq and with the reactions
of those who we believed and trusted to rectify the worst disaster
the U.S has caused since Vietnam. As you are aware, we are also
disturbed that so many politicians seem unfamiliar and/or
unconcerned with the Constitution. In fact, some would rather
get rid of it or take part "off the table".
I have the same strange feeling as you many days...that my fellow
Americans seem to care less...at least in the action they are
willing to take. It is like a twilight zone they are living in.
This is not F ing TV!! Glad that you contribute to this site.
Sometimes it just takes a few more people standing up for the
right things to cause a tipping point...keep adding yourself
to the struggle...we may prevail in some uexpected ways.
IMPEACH REMOVE INDICT !!! F ESPN bring on COURT TV !!!!
Spot On, Highlander
As a long time sports follower, I have also reached the same conclusion about "all sports, all the time"! It has become something akin to what Lenin felt about religion, the "opiate" of the masses. Following the sports scene is somewhat like a mind numbing drug one can use to escape the trials and tribulations of day to day life in the realm of Bushlandia.
What do you think of the concept of disaffected Democrats and disaffected Republicans and Independents, Greens and all others getting together and shedding the tainted party labels and creating a truly compromise loving political force which refuses to be bought off by lobbyists, foreign intervenors (read AIPAC), and worshippers of what Ike called (in the initial draft reportedly of '61 farewell) the military-industrial-Congressional complex?
WE THE PEOPLE, need to deprogram ourselves from association with the party labels and tend to our collective societal interests. The two parties are so enmeshed in the making of policies which promote the narrow interests of the wealthiest members of our society, they have completely forgotten WE THE PEOPLE!
I don't recall just which regular commenter on ADS.org made the suggestion but I'm sure, whoever you are, you'll know what I mean by this. It was suggested that when you get calls and mailers seeking campaign contributions from the Dems, you politely engage the solicitors in spirited conversation on the phone and on the mailers, send them back with handwritten notes expressing your feelings about how betrayed you have been since November, 2006 and the transfer of majority "power" in the Congress.
It occurs to me that since there are so many disaffected D's, R's and I's, etc., maybe the thought of creating a coalition of the "disaffected" may be the way to proceed. Kucinich, Paul and others who have expressed their disaffection with their party's status quo should be tapped to be the promoters of the true interests of WE THE PEOPLE.
What would you think of such a "revolution" of de-programed thought?
Very Good Comments - I am in favor of a third party
I also can't believe that people are walking around, driving SUVs though they should know the cost in blood of our soldiers and the Iraqi people. It is like seeing Stepford people. Very discouraging. I admire David Swanson and others for their steadfastness and I think more articles like those in the forum on Portland impeachment and CodePink that make it easier to identify with those who are acting and not just reading and commenting on blogs would inspire more people to get involved if other left sites would focus more on the personal experiences of those engaging in taking action in the real world.
The De-Programed Party
I fully support any alternative to the two co-conspirator branches
of the corporate party. The internet, and people such as yourself,
will be our best chance to see some important changes. There are some
critical steps to achieve this across the Nation as well as State
by State. There is the communication issue, i.e. the internet, and
getting people to read (a problem in itself) web site such as this
one and others. Getting people to think about politics in such a
way as it matters to them and they don't feel powerless from the
start. We heard the people speak in 2006...they are now being
"taught" ,again, to realize that the majority does not come first.
It is so obvious today that this time there is a large revolt
of this reflected in the low polls for the Democrats (who still
think they will scare us into voting for people who won't stand
up for the Constitution. I think we could give people a sense
of their real power by calling this project...the Peoples Internet
Congress (PIC) WE could keep the agenda of the core values of our
nation together by having a priority based platform that is
steady. No compromise on the Constitution. If we could find
enough common ground to have several million people (votes could
be cast on the internet through a security type system such as pay-pal...etc to tally or take our own virtual polls, when we have
enough to make or break a close D & R race that influence would
grow. This project should offer real internet debates where the
number one questions are not ignored (like CNN did with impeachment) and equal time is given to all parties (not like ABC
and is virtual censure of Kucinich). WE would need to have impressive numbers with the actual ability to decide the difference
between the D's and the R's...this would make the MSM cover the movement (the would try to demonize it and all would need to be aware of this). I also believe that is may have to get worse before
it gets better...the time has come to vote for the best person...
not the party..if the third party is what you believe...please vote that way. We might talk about proportional representation like
New Zealand...and getting rid of the electoral collage.
This is a good time to organize. I will think more about how this could work and how it might come to be. Certainly people are
unhappy and upset and betrayed and need to start standing up again..WE should not allow this to happen and it has...WE must
change directions and fast.
For myself...it is back to calling the politicians on the phone
and letting them know, again, millions of Americans, right, left
and center, are not supporting a single person who will not uphold
the oath they took to the Constitution.
They are on thin ice and the water is cold. More people like yourself...CALL...don't let them get comfortable with the crazy
notion that this is not OUR Country!!!
You remind them who their boss is...it's you!!!
Stop letting them speak like some kind of king or queen...
it insults my whole being to listen to some of these fools
who are making policy go on and on with lie after lie.
We need to remind each other...THIS IS REAL!!!
WAR CRIMES ARE REAL!!! BUSH IS A CRIMINAL!!!
IMPEACH REMOVE INDICT !!! and THE DE-PROGRAM PARTY or the
PEOPLEs INTERNET CONGRESS...or the AMERICAN CONSTITUTION PARTY
(ACP) the UNITED AMERICANS for IMPEACHMENT PARTY (UAIP)
(that has a nice ring) We could promise the people to impeach every
president that gets elected just as a pre-emptive doctrine of
Constitutional safety!!! Why wait!!!
The People's Internet Congress - I like it!
Hello Highlander,
I really like this idea. And you're right! Why wait? They're trying to muck with the freedom of the Internet as we speak.
Who can set up a website like this? I'll do rewearch, organizing, and coordination, but I'm no techie. Highlander, you know anybody? ANybody up for this?
More Peoples Congress
I do not know who could do this. I am sure that some people
who run this site would know more. First it would be a good idea
to get really clear what the mission statement is. By keeping
it simple and sticking to core values..like the Constitution..
it could have a broad appeal. The Constitution was not written
for Democrats or Republicans..it was written for Americans.
Enough of the Divide and Disrupt of the 0.1% who are Dictating
the terms of the world. But something like a PEOPLES INTERNET
CONGRESS could work as a virtual government where WE actually
vote...not just answer a poll but register our opinion
in a formal environment..bringing it into the light of day
and telling each other across the country...WE THE PEOPLE are the Government.
It could be series of web sites...we could even elect people to
do certain functions...contribute money to pay them...etc., etc.
perhaps Swanson...Lindorff...Nichols...Fein...others...would
educate and discuss real world strategy with members...
It would be a glorious site to see Americans wake up and
start acting like citizens first and consumers last!!!
Maybe Kucinich would like to join?
