INCITEMENT: CARTOON IN COLUMBUS DISPATCH PORTRAYS IRANIANS AS COCKROACHES LEAVING SEWER

OK People...sticks and stones and blah blah blah,
I suggest that anytime some hate filled person
feels the need to incite or spread the hate around
in a public forum...that he please publish his
face and police record and other dirt on himself
so we can compare and have a choice over who is
more dispicable...the artist (too good of a word)
the pencil head who drew that disgusting picture
and/or the people who say "yeah...that's a good idea!"
and publish it. I am not against political cartoons
or free speach...I don't mind taking shots (that is
making fun of...not in the Al Pacino way) at public
figures...but to generalize against a whole race of
people who you don't even know? You reveal yourself
to be worthless intelllectually and a detriment to
rational solutions to some very serious problems.
Would you like to show Scotland in the same way?
Perhaps you should watch Braveheart a few more times
and sell your copy (it's probably worn out) of Deliverance
or give it to your friends at the paper....Whew!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not so much the knee-jerk belligerence that gets me, as the fact that these people really can't seem to tell their ass from a hole in the ground.

The cartoon, as you note, is by Michael Ramirez, a conservative cartoonist. The original publication date I have for it is 6-22-07. (I featured it in an earlier installment of Right-Wing Cartoon Watch.) Ramirez and other conservative cartoonists use this sort of dehumanizing imagery pretty frequently. In this specific case, conservative cartoonists have been accusing Iran of being a key instigator of violence in Iraq and have been urging Bush to bomb them.

I read with fascinated interest you dismissive, desultory and disingenuous reply to a reader of your editorial page who was offended by your newspaper’s cartoon portrayal of Iran as a sewer – a sewer from which countless cockroaches were shown scurrying in all directions.

I’ll bet you’re a boxer – because the kind of bobbing and weaving on display in your published rebuttal to their legitimate concern could have only come from a boxer – a punch-drunk boxer.

Of course, it doesn’t matter how good or bad you are on your feet because that couldn’t begin to forgive or excuse the xenophobic, racist incitement to hatred that you championed by publishing this tasteless (and completely untrue) piece of crap on the Columbus Dispatch’s editorial page.

Sadly, you’re no newspaperman – at least not the kind of American newspaperman I like to remember. Instead sir, you are a propagandist – and as such, should be dismissed from any position that allows you to twist the perceptions and opinions of Americans.

I submit that your misuse of your position actually threatens Americans and America.

I'm so sorry that while people inside Iran are sufering from a dictaro regimte and seeking support from understandug people all over the world ,we still can see such act of stupidity .
