How Outrageously Can Students Exercising Free Speech Be Treated

By Debbie Lewis

The actions of the University of Florida campus police, the professors, and John Kerry are utterly appalling! This video clearly shows a blatant abuse by campus police powers and their ignorance of our Founding Documents. This article by FoxNews, and this site explain what is going on. I will not try to explain, as what is going on is clear.

The University of Florida, including the students and teachers at this forum should be put on notice for the abuse of Andrew Meyer. As far as can be told by this video, all this young journalism student did was ask a question, the answer of which is common knowledge. The students and professors here obviously need to be versed in freedom of speech. The actions of the campus police officials are tantamount to police state actions.

John Kerry, on the other hand, should have had the decency to stop the abuse of this young man, as Mr. Kerry knows, by virtue of his service to our government, including his oath of office, everyone’s rights under our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

While John Kerry wants (or wanted) to be President of the United States, he clearly cannot handle the job, as he doesn’t understand basic freedom of speech. Yes, he did say he would answer the question posed by this young man, but he did nothing to stop his abuse and ultimate tasing. If he ever wanted my vote, he should have done the right thing and stood up for the rights of Mr. Meyer. In choosing to ignore the plight of Mr. Meyer, he showed us that he has no regard for our most basic of rights.

My first reaction to this horrifying video was “this can not be happening!” My next reaction, as I continued to watch, was utter shock that no one offered Mr. Meyer any assistance what so ever. This is a twenty-one year old student exercising his Constitutional Right of Freedom of Speech. What is it that this college campus does not understand about this? Why did this college campus allow their student, Mr. Meyer, rights to be abused? Why did this college campus allow its campus police to taser this young man? Who should answer or be held responsible for such horrible behavior of Mr. Meyer?

Everyone that holds our rights dear should be utterly outraged by the actions of the University of Florida and its campus police. It is our duty to call this University out and hold them accountable for the actions against this student. I challenge everyone to do his or her duty and make this despicable action known around the country. Defend Mr. Meyer and his rights. It could be one of us, next!

martial law is here, yet no one wants to believe it

it has been reported, it has been message delivered to many news outlets including A.D.S. that martial law provisions are in fact in place

to any American it is frightening to witness the video and realize that a Student of the same Universtiy was arrested and tasered for asking a question

by the way, the student asked Mr. Kerry if he was a member of Skull and Bones

then they immediately arrested him

we have a CRISIS in this Nation

now, if his lawyers are against him, they will allow standing Patriot Act provisions against him and allow the government to get a way with this

the ACLU will do nothing, their priorities are based on different criteria

again, will the american people face up to the reality in this nation

i tell you this

The Universities in this country have now officially rebelled !@!

they know now HOW IT IS

Disgusting Mr. Kerry

WTF is happening to us as a nation...just as disgusting
as the reactionary police who can't have anyone question
their use of force was the lack of response from the audience
and Mr. Kerry at the mic who could have calmed and stopped
it at any moment. Did Kerry ever get back to the people
in Austin after he seemed to admit to knowledge that WTC 7
was imploded...search YouTube "Kerry in Austin".

Why did Kerry not stop the assault on this kid?
And we expect them to stop a war?

Please People...Enough! WE must be the changes we want or
we will have lost everything that being a "so-called" free
nation could/should have been for US. This seems like the
tip of the iceberg of a sociopathic society run amok........

where the word "pragmatic" is no longer about pragmatism in
a global sense but only a new way of saying "I have no heart
and I don't care" ...but look how pragmatic I can be!
Also....let's not confuse "pragmatic" with reasoned thought...
It is not always "pragmatic" (by who knows what standard you
wish to apply) to do what is necessary and right...unless of
course you see the survival of the Constitution and the
environment and preserving life and liberty and respecting
people all over the planet as too much trouble or too time
consuming when you want to get elected! WTF....then you
use the word "pragmatic" to end the discussion...
however...if the above mentioned realities are looked at
in the bigger picture of reality....nothing is more
"pragmatic" than protecting the Constitution, Ending Violence,
Protecting the Environment.

So Mr. Kerry...why were you not heard off camera being
outraged at this debacle of police interference with a US
citizen? Disgusting! Were you afraid they would arrest you?
He was crying in pain and pleading not to be tazered.....
your statement is you did not know until after you left
the building? why didn't you stick around to see if he was
OK? I am sick of these people...Please go away! Now!
Endorse Kucinich...call for impeachment and tell us what you
know about WTC 7....or doesn't that seem "pragmatic"
enough?

While John Kerry will scramble to explain his inaction at the University of Florida in which a young man with a book in hand asked the Senator “….why don’t we impeach Bush? Also are you a member of Skull and Bones? Are you in the same secret society as Bush?”

Meanwhile, John Kerry was appealing for calm. The audience cheered when the police arrested the young man. Maybe because he was asking hard questions of Kerry and they didn’t think it appropriate. When he was actually held on the ground and tasered a young red headed woman was screaming “What are you doing to him?”

All the while Kerry was intermittently speaking “officers can we….hey folks….hey folks I think if everybody just calms down folks” John Kerry “If I just answer the question. Unfortunately he’s not available to swear me in as president.” Just about the time he is being tasered Kerry makes his joke about the young man not being able to swear him in as president.

In Kerry’s defense, there is no defense. I am sure that he did not realize they were going to taser the young man, but he should have spoke up when the police grabbed him and led him away and if he didn’t do that he should have intervened when he asked “Why am I being arrested? What did I do?”

Kerry issued a statement saying something about him not knowing if there had been issues between the young man and police before and that makes sense, but at some point he should have stepped in for calm between the police and the man they were abusing instead of asking the audience for calm.

Contrast Kerry’s behavior with a man that Kerry beat for the 2004 presidential nomination when confronted with an unexpected emergency. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GqiDFTZkMU

Forget the polls, forget the fund raising, let’s support a man for president who is not only right on every issue; trade, Iraq War, Iran War(?), liberties, single payer health care etc., but also a man of character. Dennis Kucinich

Inexcusable Conduct ...

To hear Sen. John Kerry saying "If I just answer the question. Unfortunately he’s not available to swear me in as president”, while a young man is being tazered by a group of overzealous campus policemen is the height of ugliness, incivility and a clearly blatant violation of that young man's civil rights.

What happened at the University of Florida yesterday is a blatant example of the "Campus Gestapo" in action. The same pro-Cheney political forces (such as ACTA, which was created by Lynne Cheney, and headed by her political "attack dogs", David Horowitz and Candace deRussy) which forced Professor Norman Finkelstein to quit teaching at DePaul University a couple of weeks ago when he refused to stop talking about how the Israel lobby has used the Holocaust to successfully browbeat and intimidate political officials into going along with their anti-Arab agenda, are the same pro-Cheney political forces which want to quash all dissent on college and university campuses across the nation.

When that young man dared to ask Sen. Kerry “….why don’t we impeach Bush? Also are you a member of Skull and Bones? Are you in the same secret society as Bush?”, little did he know that he was asking questions which are considered to be extremely dangerous to certain political forces, both inside and outside our government, so the young student had to be silenced, and he was to be silenced in such a way that he'd also serve as a graphic example to those who might have thought about asking those same questions.

Sen. Kerry showed his lack of character and sense of morality by not being willing to face the truth about himself and to intervene in the matter. He's not the kind of man I'd want for President, and I can't help but wonder what kind of nation we would have had if we had to endure a Kerry Presidency in the same way we're enduring the current Bush Presidency.

We need a President who not only thinks like FDR on political, domestic, international and economic issues, but who is also a man of high moral character, and isn't afraid to speak out on behalf of those who've been marginalized out of the picture.

There's only one man who fills that bill -- Dennis Kucinich.

POLICE STATE!

Kerry's behavior that exhibited neutrality when a violent incident by campus police occurred at the University of Florida, shows the world that the moderate politicians in the U. S. Congress, are not capable of acting when necessary, they are only capable of talking and pulling the wool over the eyes of Americans to make them think that they are for our civil rights when actually they are not! .. All of the politicians in congress are only for themselves and the constitutional rights of Americans will not and cannot be protected by these sell out artists!
The only politician that has the guts to stand up to power and tell it like it is, ...is Dennis Kucinich!
Prevent America from becoming a POLICE STATE! ...VOTE FOR DENNIS KUCINICH!

My Questions

Who ordered his mike cut?
What orders did the campus police have?
On who's authority did they move against Meyer?

This was a blatant violation of Meyer's civil rights. We must demand answers from our government.

Wake up Americans: Enough is Enough!

I am so glad this exchange is on You Tube and has so far been seen by hundreds of thousands of people. As Cynthia McKinney noted in her article, it is scary to see almost the entire audience do nothing to aid this student while he exercised his free speech right. How apathetic and uneducated many Americans have become about the democracy they take for granted. Our civil liberties are disappearing before our very eyes and to see students sit there like it was no big deal was mind boggling. This is a huge deal for our freedom of speech. Do something anything to not let this matter die - call Univ of Florida and demand action, call Kerry's office, be in regular contact with your elected officials about issues that matter to you. Read and know the US Constition and other founding nation documents. A democracy requires citizen participation.

I'm glad to see so many expressing interest in Dennis Kuchinich. We need a person of principle and smarts like him in the White House. But he is not accepting campaign contributions from the corporate pig troughs so if you support him, send his campaign money and offer to do work for his campaign.

So Answr Kerry...Answer the Questions!

You released a statement but did not include an answer!...you can be heard on tape saying...
"you would answer the question" or words to that effect......

So answer them in a statement...a young man was tasered.....
the least you could do now is answer the questions!
Better yet, sit down with the man and a camera and have a
conversation and put it on YouTube...we would love
to see you answer!

Appalling

In watching two videos of the arrest and tasering of the student, I noticed that one of the policemen pulled a GUN on the student before they dragged him to the back of the auditorium. A gun?? In the middle of the auditorium? Five to six police with at least one gun and at least one taser on an unarmed student. The University of Florida, the campus police, the students in the audience who clapped, and especially John Kerry should be held to account for these inexcusable events.

re: tyranny in florida

I contacted Miss Stump, the chief of campus po'lice, and told her I will be looking into whether or not her position should be terminated and criminal charges filed against her and her department. I will also contact the accrediting agency of the university in order to encourage them to withdraw its accredation of the university under the circumstance, which would result in a huge loss of income for the school, and I encourage others to do the same.

Cactuspat posted this tasering of father w/baby at youtube

so I thought it was worth noting , since this incident is very recent too. The use of the taser has obviously turned into a Gestapo tactic in this country for un-armed non-violent acts and is, needless to say, way out of hand.
