Kucinich: Iraq War Funding Deal Is Immoral
WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 10, 2007) — Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) released the following statement before Congress takes up yet another Iraq war funding bill this week:
“It is immoral for Congress to make a deal to keep this war going. It is immoral to keep a war going that is based on lies. And it is immoral to make a deal to claim legislative victories unrelated to the war while at the same time spending money to keep the war going,” Kucinich said.
The House is expected to bring up an omnibus spending package this week. The mechanism and timing for inclusion of Iraq war funding in the bill is not yet decided. One option is for the Senate to amend a House-passed version of the bill to reflect the back room deal on domestic spending. It would reportedly not include Iraq war funding. The Senate would add funding for the Iraq war and send it back to the House.
“In politics, you can make a deal where one party gets its way and the other party gets its way and that’s okay when people don’t die,” Kucinich said.
“This war funding plan shows a distressing lack of concern about the situation of our troops. It shows a disregard for the Democrats’ promise to the American people to end the war.”
“We do not have to fund the war. We have the money to bring the troops home. It does not require a vote. It requires determination and truth.
“This is yet another example of leadership becoming increasingly unwilling to end this war,” Kucinich concluded.

It's etched in stone Mr. Kucinich. Nobody listens to you (and I know the feeling). I have no one to vote for and I cannot pick the candidate. All my e-mails ask for donations. I have to vote each election because of school taxes ... if I could get 1/2 the appraisal value of my house it would be 4x as much as I paid for it. If I cannot vote for you next November it will be my last visit to the voting booth. Our congress is a waste.

Kucinich speaks for a majority of Americans, not just our interests but our core beliefs. On the war, Iran, health care, trade, workers rights, the environment, issue after issue, he speaks our views and expresses our feelings. He is the authentic voice of the American working people. Many people understand this, but most are convinced in their hearts that he can't win. Yet all it will take is people voting for whom they really want instead of calculating, "triangulating" with their vote, and Kucinich will be out front.
What we have here is a "hope barrier". People have no hope, so we don't act. Every time you give voice to your discouragement and put it out there ans a political position, you feed into that.
Let me suggest that the way across the hope barrier is to build an irresistable movement behind Kucinich around the issue of impeachment. It is urgent, and necessary, and it can build into a force that Congress can't resist. And it will spill over into a willingness to act around his candidacy.

I hear you loudly and clearly! I hope you will vote for him in your primary or caucus. I agree--if he doesn't get the nomination, I wash my hands of this whole fucking mess called DEMOCRACY and focus on my own small world.
Kucinich is the ONLY reason I got interested in politics in 2003; he was what I had always hoped for in a politician. Before that, having been a 1960's person and Vietnam vet, I'd seen enough B.S. and removed myself--t.v. and all. I expect to do that again in the next few months, I'm afraid.
Well there's an alternative for president.
And that's ron paul, he been against this war & against funding the war from the beginning as well, he also said that we went to war under UN Resolutions and that must come to an end as well.

Broken Government
The U.S. government is broken and will remain so as long as the two party system remains in place. The two party system is neither enshrined in the Constitution or legislated into law, but it remains the most powerful force in U.S. politics. It keeps good people out of elected service and turns most of the good ones who enter into nothing more than corporate party whores.
Any U.S. senator or congressmember who is not supporting at the least impeachment investigations and an immediate end to offensive operations in our criminal occupation in Iraq is not worthy of my wasting cyber ink swearing at them.
Instant Runoff Voting and 100% federally financed elections are the only hope I can see for our democracy. The Democratic Party is so rotten at the top that the grassroots don't have a chance to save it.
Also needed for saving democracy is media reform.
I love Dennis Kucinich and will vote for him, but the Kucinich's are few and far between in the Democratic Party.

Getting Kucinich Elected
The working poor and the dwindling middle class are the sacrifice that this administration and this Congress are willing to make to ensure that they and their friends get richer. When will our government stop solely representing the interest of big business and start representing the constituents who voted the officials into office?
The Democratic Party has become just as bad as the Republican Party - there is no caring about the people or the people’s choice. It has become a money machine just as corrupt as the Republicans. Please note that except for Dennis Kucinich the Democratic Party has no candidate and has lost my vote.
The press ridicules and makes fun of Dennis Kucinich simply because he would make a difference if elected. The rich and powerful who own the media, the arms companies and the majority of the politicians cannot afford to have someone honest in office. Especially not someone who would be willing to stop a war and stand up for the working poor and the dwindling middle class.
Would it not be wonderful if we could in fact get Dennis Kucinich elected despite the media?
