Weapons Maker General Electric Rewrites Criteria to Exclude Kucinich from Debate

DETROIT, MI - Less than 44 hours after NBC sent a congratulatory note and
an invitation to Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich to participate in the
Jan. 15 Democratic Presidential debate in Las Vegas, the network notified
the campaign this morning it was changing its announced criteria,
rescinding its invitation, and excluding Kucinich from the debate.

NBC Political Director Chuck Todd notified the Kucinich campaign this
morning that, although Kucinich had met the qualification criteria
publicly announced on December 28, the network was "re-doing" the
criteria, excluding Kucinich, and planning to invite only Senators Hillary
Clinton and Barack Obama and former senator John Edwards.

The criteria announced last month included a fourth-place or better
showing in a national poll. The USA/Gallup poll earlier this month showed
Kucinich in fourth place among the Democratic contenders.
In an email to the Kucinich campaign at 2:35 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9,
Democratic Party debates consultant Jenny Backus wrote:

"Congratulations on another hard-fought contest. Now that New Hampshire is
over, we are on to Nevada and our Presidential Debate on Tuesday January
15. This letter serves as an official invitation for your candidate to
participate in the Nevada Presidential Debate at Cashman Theatre in
downtown Las Vegas. You have met the criteria set by NBC and the Debate."
Todd notified the Kucinich campaign this morning that the network had
decided to change the criteria and limit participation in the debate to
only three candidates.

Kucinich is the only remaining Democratic Presidential candidate who:
voted against the original Iraq War authorization in 2002 and every
war-funding measure since; voted against the so-called Patriot Act;
advocates a national, not-for-profit health system that covers all
Americans; has called for the repeal of NAFTA and withdrawal from the WTO;
and proposes a national back-to-work program (Works Green Administration)
patterned after the Depression-era Works Progress Administration (WPA).
The Kucinich campaign, which filed an emergency complaint with the Federal
Communications Commission last week because of ABC's decision to exclude
the candidate from a nationally televised debate, is considering legal
action to address "the blatant disregard of the public interest in
silencing public debate that dissents with the views of NBC, its parent
company, GE, and all of the military contractors and their
candidate-funding corporate interests. Corporate control of the media is
one issue. Corporate media control of the information that is allowed to
reach American citizens is much more dangerous, much more sinister, and
much more un-American."

"When 'big media' exert their unbridled control over what Americans can
see, hear, and read, then the Constitutional power and right of the
citizens to vote is being vetoed by multi-billion corporations that want
the votes to go their way," the Kucinich campaign said.

IF BIG MEDIA GET AWAY WITH THIS....

If big media continue to exclude Dennis Kucinich voice you can expect this to continue in all of American politics at every political level.

THE MESSAGE, SAY WHAT WE WANT YOU TO SAY OR WE WILL CUT YOU OFF FROM THE PUBLIC. WE DECIDE WHO GETS ELECTED!! NOT THE PUBLIC!

AMERICA BE WARNED: This type of behavior of big media and the military complex IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.

WE NO LONGER OWN AMERICA! WE NO LONGER OWN OUR POLITICS! MOST IMPORTANT WE NO LONGER OWN OUR POLITICIANS!

It is a shame most Americans do not see the danger in this, most Americans are only content to set back moan and continue watching their tv. But one day it will hit all Americans like a rock when they learn corporations dictate American life!

THIS IS TRULY A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS, WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE OF AMERICA!!

Stay tuned.

Please see "NBC un-plugs Kucinich from Presidential debate" under Active Forum topics in left hand column for some tentative ideas and call for suggestions. Thanks, Rain

We need to really protest this action. Americans had better unit and start to take action about this, because this is the start of the end.\

The end of the beginning

The MSM does not intend to have Kucinich run for president on the Democratic ticket. That place is reserved for Hillary who they have s"elected" (I didn't think of that) for us. We will s"elect" her in due time with the help of Diebold and others.

Is it possible to break free? It is impossible to tell, but one thing I know, Kucinich will be shutout by the Dems. Should he spend time and money recounting stolen s"elections"? That is a tough call.

I think we should all concentrate on impeachment while we still can.

This sucks, but is not surprising somehow...

You're exactly right - the media has no intentions of allowing a candidate that threatens their interests a chance to make his case known - it would be too popular and would make trouble for their very existence. I hope people make a big deal out of this - Kucinich is the best hope we have.

I will stay the course for Kucinich

I will not vote for Obama or for Hilary, period. They both endorsed Lieberman. (A lithmus test to show what they stand for).

I will write in "KUCINICH".

Look, I have voted Democratic for years to spite the Republicans even though I did not like the candidate. From now on it will be my conscience that votes.

I will stay the course for Kucinich too...

He is the biggest fighter for impeachment! 50 counts for Bush coming...

I am hoping he drops the corrupt Democrats, who are doing nothing to support him in his candidacy (and, in fact, it looks like they are sabotaging him). He would be perfect as a Green or Independent. Greens have really changed their platform and it is almost identical to what Dennis stands for...

I will stay the course for Kucinich as well !

They will have to pry my paper ballot from my cold dead hands!

Edwards's Script

GE couldn't be playing it more to Edwards's script. It's eerie.

The US Chamber of Commerce acted on Edwards's cue earlier this week when they said they would raise corporate money to swift boat populists.

Military Industrial Complex is VOIDING our votes!

Or should I say AVOIDING our votes. MIC is not even giving us a chance to vote for who we really want by making debates an exclusive MIC debate club!!!

People, are we gonna really let this happen? Hello?

FUCK GE !

oops, did I say that?

Fuck GE?

Fuck Chuck (Todd), the ghost of Ari Fleischer.

People, give this news to your local NBC affiliates' newsrooms. They apparently do not know!

I called my NBC local affiliate , connected to the newsroom, and told the man who answered that NBC has rescinded its invitation to Kucinich by changing the announced criteria. The man who answered the phone did not seem to understand me at first, and went on to defend NBC that they set criteria because NBC could not possibly have a debate with everyone who is officially running for a presidential candidate, and that NBC sets its criteria according to top percentage in polls or whatever blabla pre-packaged answer. I then told him that Kucinich has gotten NUMBER ONE in at least three independent polls that I'm aware of, and that's not the point anyways; the REAL NEWS here is that NBC CHANGED the criteria so that NBC could RESCIND their invitation to Kucinich. I said I have an article that states that and then the local NBC newsman said "send it to me".

So I asked the NBC local affiliate newsman his newsroom email and I sent him this article.

David, do you have the original link to this article please? I would like to send that out to ALL my local TV network affiliate newsrooms and local major newspaper as well!

SPOTLIGHT THIS!

EVERYONE!!!

Write letters to the editor! Write/call NBC! Do WHATEVER you can to get this out there because you can bet your asses it ain't gonna hit the Corporate media!

WHY and HOW have the media taken over these kind of decisions in a
FREE(?) country???!!! THIS is what happened to Hitler's Germany!
WAKE UP THE SLEEPING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Write a letter to the editor!

Here is the letter I wrote and had published(1/11/08) in the Berkshire Eagle regarding the New Hampshire debate lockout.

Wasn't it interesting that the one candidate for president who has consistently opposed this war mongering, constitution shredding administration is refused the right to appear in the "Debate" this past weekend? How is it that Senator Kucinich poses as such a threat that the corporate media dare not allow his message to be heard? How is it that he is the only candidate who never voted for the authorization to use force against Iraq, the UN-patriot act I and II, or the continued financing of the occupation of Iraq, which is not a war. That he has spoken clearly about the crimes committed by this administration, the spying, the lying and the simply ignored laws. The only real Democrat in this crowd of republican-lite contenders for the leadership of this once great and honorable country. What is it they are so afraid he'll say.
The constitution names only one civil enterprise as having especial rights, only one, the press. It is protected by the first amendment to the constitution, as one of the five freedoms, ie. religion, speech, PRESS, assembly and petition. An informed public is the key to democracy. When we are denied the right to hear the truth how can we decide our future?
When ABC, the Disney Corporation, refused to allow Senator Kucinich to appear in the debate, they denied ALL of us the right to free speech. Senator Kucinich has properly filed the necessary paperwork to run as a candidate, has received matching funds form the government for his campaign, yet he has been systematically denied the right to speak to the American voting public.
So I ask, What is he trying to say that so threatens the media, the other candidates, and the current administration that they can't let you hear him? What has this small, quiet, man got to say?
I think we all had better find out before next November!

I don't think Kucinich is so quiet...

Kucinich is not a Senator

He is a 6 term congressman in the House of Representatives. Good letter, otherwise!

This is bigger than Kucinich, WE MUST ACT NOW AGAINST CORP MEDIA

This is ludicrous that we allowed it to get this far! We depend on MSM to work for us, to be our watchdogs, to be our guardian angels against all this MIC/corporate crap . Isn't it like a journalist's Hippocratic Oath or something, ALL AMERICAN JOURNALISTS worth their salt must now stand up with WE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, or get the hell out of our way!

Protests against corporate media affiliates , especially NBC/GE, must now happen. ALL AMERICANS MUST ACT NOW TO BUST UP THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX (MIC) HOLD ON CORPORATE MEDIA.

Watch out NBC... the AMERICANS ARE COMIN'!!!

AMERICANS ARE COMIN'!!!

Watch out NBC... the AMERICANS ARE COMIN'!!!

I wish America had your enthusiasm. Most people are addicted to the crap that television feeds them. Sports, Sit Coms, Shoot Um Ups, and lots of lies that make them feel good. The war, the economy, politics, who wants to here about it? It is all so depressing. Television news has not told us what is going on in this country, and the world for some time now. OJ.s new antics can be the big story of the day, and they won't have to tell us about the war protests, the impeachment rallies, and the up and coming financial collapse of America.

To television, politics is like a game show, in which they hand pick the contestants. First they have to be the type of person that everyone would like to watch. Second they have to be able to hold an audience's attention. They like the game show contestants to bounce around, and squeal every time they win something. The political contestant they prefer a more intellectual and reserved kind of bouncing and squealing.

What can we do about Television. One year from now they are going to change over to Hi Definition Television. Your present TV sets will no longer work. Throw them out,and do not buy new ones. We don't have to see Dennis on TV to vote for him.

I am sure the problems of our media can be solved much easier than the problems of our nation. I think that what we need to do is to continue what we have been doing, only do it better.

Political TV Bars

I know exactly what you mean, my enthusiasm took a nosedive yesterday . Me and my Dad were looking for a place to eat, and we couldn't be too choosy because we had just dropped my son off at another restaurant for a meeting with his adult Asperger's group that a wonderful lady from an autistic center facilitates.

We found one that was close by so we could wait for my son, and it was a loud, noisy sports TV bar. The food was GREAT, but while me and Dad were talking impeachment and presidential candidates, this is the conversation I heard at the other table. (I think I saw a lateral pass to a guy who did a forward pass to the guy who ran all the way for touchdown before I heard this ): man & lady " YAY, touchdown, that was amazing" lady "But he passed it to him underhand , is that even legal". man "yeah, that's a lateral pass".
I wanted to go over to their table, and every table and barstool in the entire sports TV bar and shake each customer by the shoulders "Don't you get it, this is distracting you from the fascism of our country by controlling you with corporate sports TV ... we have impeachments to deal with , and presidential candidates to vote for, GET OFF YOUR BARSTOOLS PEOPLE AND DEMAND YOUR RIGHTS TO VIEW THE REAL NEWS!"

But , alas, instead I ordered Jambalaya (damn good, btw) and sloshed it down with coffee and a few waters with lemon.

I think whoever invents Political TV Bars (no, not pointy head little cafes with laptop internet access) , but REAL BIG BARS with REAL POLITICAL TV CHANNELS all over the place, I believe that person will make a kajillion dollars for the idea.

Yankhadenuf, bad timing for me

Just when I have managed to go 3 weeks without a beer.

Who says you have to drink alcohol at a Politics News Bar ?

There can be fancy coffees, soda pops, and bottled waters too, just like at the pointy head cafes :o)

I hate to think what the future holds.

I think a Political TV Bars would go over like a led balloon. I don't think peoples enjoyment of sports, or even the silly things on television is the problem. The problem is when they get so wrapped up in it that they louse track of the important things in the world around them. Most people like to think of them selves as patriotic, Good Americans. A government of the people, can only exist if the people are willing to participate. Declaring your love of country, and waving your little flag will not do the trick. Good Americans of that type are not any different than Good Germans.

I am hoping that people will turn off their TV sets and wake up to the sorry state that our nation is in. We have had two fraudulent national elections. Criminals and thugs have taken over our government. Our constitutional rights have been eliminated. Our military is being used in an immoral, and illegal war, for the sole purpose of generating profits for the privileged. Who in their wildest imagination would have ever thought that the United States of America, Land of The Free, would be torturing people? Our treasury has been looted. Our Congress is ether totally incompetent, or under fascist control. The worst thing of all, is that so many people in this country simply could give a shit. What we need to do is turn off the TV, and put aside the big game, and do something about this. People who truly want to be good Americans, now is your chance. I hate to think what the future holds for all of us, if we are unable to change the direction that we are moving in.

Political TV, NOT Patriotic TV

I'm hoping more and more channels from cable TV and around the world would be aired in a public setting, even Al Jazeera. After all, most of what we have learned about America from the blogs has been from foreign press! Currently this only happens with a one on one setting , me and my monitor.

The Political TV Bar idea is to reach more masses of Americans with mass media from many sources in a collective setting in order to have public discourse , and getting the brain juices flowing and loose tongues going (maybe with a little help from beer).

Of course , a really good food menu including Jambalaya couldn't hurt.
:o)

PS I do NOT want to see the usual crowd there! I want to see people who are uncommitted politically and also those from ALL political views to be attracted to Political TV Bars. The only way to get American people together to expose them to ALL NEWS MEDIA is in a social setting.

I like the political bar idea....

where do you live, yank? maybe we could open one!

beer + politics = fun & trouble!!!!

Political Bars or News Bars slogan: Think while you drink !

Free food, free cable news from America and around the world, free public discourse ! Only pay for your drinks, (including non-alcoholic) , donations for food is voluntary! Do you think it would take off in Florida?

I'd Love To See A "Political Bar", Too.

I remember when the CBC's Newsworld International channel used to be on our cable TV system until Al Gore bought the channel, dropped Newsworld International, and launched a TV network called "Current TV" which caters to young adults between the age of 18 to 35.

Much of what I've learned about America and America's political scene came from CBC's Newsworld, not from CBS, NBC, ABC and CNN. When I'm online, I listen to streaming radio from other countries, including Canada, because America's MSM isn't going to tell the truth, and the American MSM has a built-in bias against the American people.

If there was a place where people from all shades of the political spectrum could gather together in a social setting so they could see and understand our nation from the viewpoint of the mass media of other nations, I think we might see the end of America's political illiteracy, and in the process, encourage Americans -- through discussions and lively debates -- to become more interested in the world around them, and train, educate and prepare them to take constructive action (such as proposing policies to the government) to make the nation and the world a better place, instead of being continually preoccupied with the "newsworthy" personal crises of Britney Spears and O.J. Simpson.

Who knows... perhaps the "political bar" may spark a renewed interest in the "lively art of conversation", an art which has been all but lost due to our MSM-induced "in-your-face" culture, where people talk at each other, instead of talking to each other.

Dismissed again.

I've received but one reply to my emails regarding the dismissal of Dennis Kucinich from the Las Vegas Democratic(-NOT) debates. ... speaking of being 'dismissed,' here is KGW-TV's (Portland, OR) response:

"Dear Kate,

Thank you for your e-mail.

Everyone here at KGW-TV strives everyday to provide the most personally relevant news and information for our customers. And, it is through customer feedback that we are best able to appreciate viewer information.
Thank you again for your e-mail.

Best Regards,
Mike"

This was not their 'auto-reply' - I received that almost immediately after sending my sentiments regarding Kucinich.

Hello, anybody home?!

Something to look into.

A news bar or anything else that could help spread the word would be fine with me. If it were implemented in a good way, may be it could work. The reason that I said that it would go over like a led balloon is, because traditionally bar rooms are a bad place to bring up politics. Your description of the Sports Bar is a typical description of most bars. People go there to have a few beers, watch the game, raze a little hell, meet a nice girl or guy, dance and have a little fun. I have seen politics brought up as subjects of conversation before in bars, and they wind up turning into fist fights. Booze and politics somehow don't mix.

Much of our news does come to us from out of the country as you said, but something else has happened in this country. When our commercial media stopped providing us with quality news, and truth, individual freelance writers, and independent film makers have taken up the job. I have never seen so many good books being published on social issues. The book stores are full of books on 9/11, Impeachment, The War, on Government, and on History. Film makers are doing quality productions on all of the subjects that the media is ignoring. Books and DVDs are not only available for purchase, but films are being shown in social settings as well. Progressive political organizations are showing films at their headquarters, and individuals are inviting people to their homes for coffee, drinks, and private showings. If this could be extended to other social settings, I think it would be wonderful. Your bar room idea could be a good one if you could get around the typical bar room rowdy crowds. It certainly is something to look into.

Stumping behind chickenwire, instead of karoake!

Well , to get around the barroom brawls, anyone who wants to "stump" politically speaking that is , would get 5 minutes , behind chickenwire ;-D "Stumping" could be the new craze in Politics/ News Bars all across the nation, and would replace karaoke as the latest fad.

Imagination gone wild :o)

He should get someone in the spotlite

James Verthein
La Crescent, MN

Maybe the way to go is to have Jessie Ventura as his running partner this would probally get him his deserved attention, and this would probally get the impeachement proceeding started, I am not saying I agree with the whole Ventura outlook, but he does say it like it is and that is good enough for me, in fact his actions spoke louder than any words in Minnesota. He is a champion and this lame excuse needs to go by the way side.

This Might Be Why (??)

Then why is GE still in business ?

Didn't they violate Trading with Enemy Act? If yes, why wasn't their company assets confiscated to pay off their employees' severance pay and their stockholders?

Or does this type of violation only get a corporation a slap on the wrist? Aren't individuals executed for this type of treason, or no?
