Mayor of London Calls Bushies "A Gang of Thugs"

Mayor of London Calls Bushies "A Gang of Thugs"
By David Swanson

Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, England, threw a bash for anti-war activists this evening and denounced the Bush Administration as "a gang of thugs." He praised the work of those present from the US and the UK who have worked to end the war, including offering high praise for Cindy Sheehan, who also spoke.

"You are the majority of Londoners," Livingstone said, referring to those who want the war ended and who view the behavior of the Bush Administration as criminal. In reference to reports that Bush wanted to bomb the headquarters of Al Jazeera, Livingstone said "Anywhere else we call that Murder Incorporated."

He said that next year he planned to hold an international conference against the clash of civilizations. He cited London as an example of a city where there is no clash, where people of various ethnic and religious backgrounds live together. After the bombings in the Underground, he said, "not one person in London attacked another person." (Presumably he was making an exception for the police.)

Kate Hudson of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament also addressed the crowd this evening, praising "the Mayor for Peace," for his opposition to the war, his support for nuclear disarmament, and for building harmony and equality among communities in London. Hudson also praised Sheehan, before asking us to remember absent friends, including the Christian Peace Team hostages, one of whom, Norman Kember, is known to many London peace activists, and Anas Altikriti of the Muslim Association of Britain, who has gone to Iraq to try to help free the hostages.

Before Livingstone introduced Cindy, he mentioned that the media sometimes calls him "anti-American." He said: "I'm not anti-American. I love America. I love Americans' competence, their lack of deference, their belief that they can achieve their best. I hope some day we can get a government as good as the American people, a government with the morality of Cindy."

Cindy began her remarks by saying "I've been called anti-American too! What happens is that they can't attack our message, so they attack the messenger."

Nobel prizewinning playwright Dario Fo has written (or is still writing up to the last minute) a play about Cindy, which will be performed in London on Saturday night. Cindy said she planned to go to the debut of "Peace Mom" and sit in the front row and heckle herself with calls of "Traitor!"

Cindy returned the Mayor's praise, saying that she hoped we could get his bravery and integrity into our government at home.

"The Mayor did call them gangsters," Cindy said of the Bush Administration, "and that's right. But, " she told the crowd, "your prime minister is an accomplice."

Cindy discussed various US war crimes, including the admitted use of chemical weapons on Fallujah. She condemned these actions, but said she wanted Londoners to know that "Most Americans wholeheartedly oppose what our government is doing. And we're fighting to take back our government!"

But, "we're complicit," she added. "Why weren't we in the streets in 2000 when the Supreme Court put Bush in the White House?"

"We condemn the random killings on 9-11," Cindy added. "And the London bombings. And we condemn the insurgents in Iraq for killing our soldiers, but we do not blame them. In every foreign occupation through history, there has been an insurgency. If you want to end the insurgency, you end the occupation."

Cindy also discussed the Downing Street Memos, which six months ago so angered her with their frank revelations of duplicitous war-making by the Bush and Blair administrations. "We thought the Downing Street Memo would be the turning point," she said. "But today I was on a radio show in London, and a guy said 'Bush and Blair didn't know that Saddam didn't have weapons of mass destruction before the war.'"

Cindy concluded:

"We need an investigation! We are fighting for impeachment of these criminals!"

That line got huge applause.

The Mayor closed by quoting a remark that William Jennings Bryan made in response to Carnegie claiming he loved America: "We're glad you love America. When you're done with it, can we have it back?"

Livingstone said that Cindy was heir to that tradition.

MORE to come…..

Thursday: We're off to Scotland for the day to meet with Parliament in Edinburgh and rally in Glasgow. Meanwhile back in London, the Stop the War Coalition will hold a press conference about Saturday's upcoming conference, and about Britain denying a visa for the conference to Sheikh Hassan Al Zargani. Speakers will include Americans Ann Wright and Kelly Dougherty.

Friday: I'm planning to meet with some British labor folks. Labor unions here give free office space to the Stop the War Coalition and support its efforts. Makes me a bit ashamed of the US labor movement. Friday night there's a reception for international delegates to the conference.

Saturday: All day conference. It's sold out. The place holds 1,300, and 2,000 may show up. Saturday evening is the debut of "Peace Mom," a play by Dario Fo.

Sunday: an additional strategy meeting about cross-oceanic alliances and tactics.

Pinter's protest

Thu 8 Dec 2005

NOBEL literature laureate Harold Pinter said the prime minister, Tony Blair, and US president George Bush should be prosecuted for the invasion of Iraq, which he called "an act of blatant state terrorism".

In a pre-recorded lecture presented yesterday at the Swedish Academy in Stockholm, Pinter said the two should be arraigned before the International Criminal Court of Justice.

"The invasion of Iraq was a bandit act, an act of blatant state terrorism, demonstrating absolute contempt for the concept of international law," he said.

We what the president and vic

We what the president and vice-president impeached NOW!
Cowards they are, mass muderers they have become.

impeached NOW!

I gather the writer is calling Bush a coward. Well to be perfectly frank with the writer he/she is almost right.

First the writer refers to King George as President, that is not true since he was not elected in 2000 or 2004.

Secondly he was a coward before he masterminded the take over of the American Governmnet, that is to say in 1968 (approximately) he was in the Texas Air National Guard which I assume you know is supposedly a peace time unit to be moblized in case of national emergencies or needed to be sent into war.
It is sometimes referred to as "weekend Warriors" because they only come out one weekend a month and two weeks of summer drill
Bush choose to defer his weekend drill asking the Commander of the unit if he could have special dispensation and not bother to show up for drill weekends. With or with out approval he did not bother to make drill for three months. In military parlance this is equal to desertion. However he managed to come before the commander and ask for an early (release) out from his military obligation so he could go to (Yale) school.

Texas being a part of the GOOD-OLE Boy network and Bush being the son of a favorite son (daddy Bush) and daddy being a high mucky-mucky in the pentagon they did not bother to court martial Bush the son for desertion because of his close association with Bush the first.

In addition to not showing up for weekend drill meetings he early on, in 2000 election made a statement "He did not volunteer for duty in Vietnam because he thought he could serve his country better by remaining in the States.
He did however leave the Texas National Guard without (proper orders signed by a authorizing agent namely the commander) authorization to go to Alabama to help one Mr. Blount to get elected to the U.S. Senate.
When that endeavor failed, Blount lost his election bid; King George returned to Texas, whereby he began his act of desertion.
However his statement in the 2000 campaign was "I served my time and received an Honorable discharge" well ok but lets go back to the desertion and the GOOD-OLE Boy network.

NO COURT-MARTIAL Just a honorable discharge and be on your merry way.
So you can see his cowardise was brought with him through out his entire life

Cowards they are....

Come to think of it there are not many of that gang who ever was in the military or finished their hich.

Peace Movement

I think it is sad that few if any major cities in America have Peace Mayors. This Administration needs to be taken to task for their immoral, corrupt and unethical behavior. They are more like a third world country military junta than the leaders of the largest Democracy in the world. I fear for America, my country may never be the same free place it was before these thugs usurped power.

Globilization for Human Dignity in Life

Yes Cindy you expose the only good part of Globilization of the World. You are our "Lady For Peace" expressing a "Mothers" desire of sharing "Mother Hood" with all the World.

War on terror is a secret war on religion

I have a very bad feeling that this war is a fulfillment of some Bible prophecy. Bible prophecy foretells worldly governments turning against and abolishing all religion in order to achieve world peace and security. We are moving towards a global government. There are already plans in place to reform the United Nations and there has been mention of transforming the UN into some sort of world government. (Revelation 17:13) Bible prophecy reveals how the UN will view religion as false and a threat to world peace. (Revelation 17:16) The Bible says that God will break the nations with a rod of iron, they will be crushed like a potter's vessel. (Psalm 2:9; Revelation 2:27; and Revelation 19 verses 15 and 19) I am afraid that the religious leaders of the mainstream churches have misinterpeted the "end times" prophecies. There is nothing we can do to prevent any of these things from occurring so we have to get our lives right with the true God so we can survive the coming judgment upon this world.

Secret War on Religion

Yes Carl, I accept your verbaige and add that I think we can prepare but also try to stop actions against the innocent in our own way. Locally; United States for example through New Orleans Tragedy, I have heard negative comments against Afro-Americans being poor, stupid, and black by people with christian up bringing. This is sad.

Bush Admn.

Bush&Admn.have commited treason & should not ONLY Impeached but tried for said crime. Kevin David DiRito

Impeachment of Bush gang and tried as war criminals.

Yes, we need to impeach this whole administration, for lies and misrepresenting a war they involved our country in.. Had they not told these lies and even got a resolution from congress based upon lies and more lies. Had we known the truth, our people and congress would never have signed that resolution, we all know that! The whole country was wackbushed.

It is time to hold this leader accountable, over and over he breaks our laws, by issuing edicts, of which he has no power. The congress passes the bills in congress, not the president nor anyone else, encluding the supreme court. We should have known he would be this kind of president by how his group stole the election in 2000. After the real count, it was found that Al Gore won by over a half million votes, that is exactly when he and his should have been impeached. Some of those Congresspeople need impeaching as well, they have introduced bills which were based up lies and knowingly they proceeded to pass them. I happened to believe the Patriot Was treasonous and still do. Those are basic constitutional laws and our basic freedoms. How dare they stand and do this to us all. We have laws to take care of treason, of lawbreakers of all kinds, encluding spies and terrorist. Would we allow another country to come in here and take away our citizen's rights and freedoms? To shread our constitution... well, then why do we allow one of our own citizens to do that? He is now owning up to the dirt and laws he broke..He doesn't have the right to make up his own laws, that is simply not constitutional. All of our laws should now be inforced by the Justice Department, If the Department head will not, then impeach him for not doing his job.

The not-so-silent-majority

According to some people, if you oppose Bush & Co.'s policies, then you're anti-American. Considering that almost 90% of the world population opposed the invasion of Iraq, we must just be living in one giant anti-American bastion!

But let's face it: Ken Livingstone, Harold Pinter, Michael Moore, and that whole crowd (including Alan Rickman, Sean Penn, etc) truly represent world opinion. If Bush really believes that he has most people on his side (and according to what I've seen, he actually does believe that), then he couldn't be more out of touch with reality.
