But Cheney's Worse

By David Swanson

We're trying to impeach Bush AND CHENEY. Regardless, there are several reasons to stop worrying that impeaching Bush would make things worse.

An investigation into possible grounds for impeachment, as well as proposals for censure, serve an educational and political purpose in themselves, whether or not we get to impeachment. We further discredit the Bushies, and we help to build an opposition.

Impeachment and removal from office are two separate things, one of which has never been done in U.S. history. We should try for removal from office, but we shouldn't worry about it one way or another while fighting for impeachment.

It would be virtually impossible to investigate Bush or Cheney without incriminating the other one.

Cheney is running the show now backstage. If by some combination of incredibly improbably occurrences he ended up president, we'd be better off with him up front as a walking advertisement for voting against Republicans. We'd be no worse off, since he's already in charge.

It is, in any case, our duty to demand impeachment. If you cannot impeach for the highest crime imaginable, taking the nation to war on the basis of lies, then you can never impeach, or impeachment must be reserved for sex.

It is the duty of every citizen to demand what is right and just, come what may. More important than who sits in the Oval Office is that they know that we can hold them accountable for their actions.

Allowing criminal underlings to provide immunity is a recipe for disaster.

Why Cheney shouldn't stop us from demanding impeachment

Yet another reason: Stuff happens. I am old enough to remember when we were in a similar funk about Nixon -- "Spiro Agnew would be much worse," we thought. Then Agnew got indicted for bribery and corruption in Maryland, thanks to some good shoe-leather investigating and political courage on the part of the prosecutor's office.

With Libby signalling that one of his "defenses" is "my boss told me to do it," and a prosecutor who seems determined to go wherever the evidence leads, there's hope.

Bush admin aids soldier in abandoning family

Three years ago the military buried Shawn C. Moore in a casket that was either empty or intentionally had the wrong body in it. His widow found out a few weeks ago that he is alive and living in the Plano, Texas area. His parents and his "superiors" knew the whole time he was alive, yet let his widow and child born 4 months after his "death" believe he was dead. When the "widow" went to move out of Texas and start a new life, he suddenly appeared to file for custody of his child. It was revealed that he had been seeing the child when she was at his parents' house for the past two and a half years. The judge originally ruling in this case awarded custody to this man, who with the aid of the US Govt. abandoned his wife three years ago. With this kind of internal terrorism, with a willing US Govt. backing it, what else is going on that the American people don't know? Who needs international terrorists, when we have our own running this country.

If you want to follow up on this, check the court records in Dallas for Jan 16th, 2006, Yes it was a Federal holiday, but this case was heard that day. Money talks in Texas. FYI - the judge has gone into retirement since this ruling, so that should help you narrow things down further.
