Los Angeles City Council to Consider Impeachment Resolution

Bill Rosendahl LA 11st District City Councilman said today at the Activist Support Circle picnic in Santa Monica Clover Field Park that on Friday August 17th he would introduce a resolution before the Los Angeles City Council to impeach President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
There will be an Impeachment Presence gathering at the Council Chambers starting at 10:00 AM Friday, August 17, 2007, at 200 N Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Handy way to avoid traffic and parking is to take the # 10 BIG BLUE BUS – last stop before entering the Santa Monica Freeway is the northwest corner of Pico BLvd and Bundy Avenue. It will stop at 1st and Spring Street, Cost is $.75 each way for seniors – 62 and over.

*What and Whom: 11 am Ceremonial Inauguration (Maxine Waters to speak) ; Picnic from 12pm - 3pm at La Cienega Park (Olympic & La Cienega). Confirmed speakers who will attend and speak at Impeachment Center July 4th Picnic include: Maxine Waters, Paul Koretz, Byron De Lear, Anthony St. Martin, Larry Everest, Shakeel Syed (Executive Director of the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California). *Why: To Urge Los Angeles City Council , Santa Monica City Council and CA State Congressional and Assembly Representatives to Pass a Resolution Calling for the Impeachment of President Bush and Vice-President Cheney
*When: Wednesday, July 4th, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
*Where: 8124 W. Third Street (at the "Peace Center" located by Crescent Heights & 3rd Street) ; 11 am inauguration will be immediately followed by picnic at nearby La Cienega Park from 12-3 pm.
Leaders of the Westside Greens, the Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles, and the Santa Monica Democratic Club will officially inaugurate an impeachment center to be followed by speakers who will address strategies and ideas relating to the impeachment of George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney. The Impeachment Center will have phonebanking, letterwriting and other Impeachment related resources available for distribution. Lawn signs, bumper stickers and other literature will be made available to all who attend. Volunteers will discuss tactics relating to both Impeachment and furthering the growing nationwide and worldwide peace movement.
The rally is being called by Los Angeles citizens to coordinate and formalize their urging and voicing their Los Angeles and California state political representatives that they should join 85 other cities that have approved resolutions calling for the investigation and impeachment of President Bush and Vice-President Cheney for high crimes involving abuse of executive power that include:
*misleading the American public to wage the US war on Iraq;
*issuing signing statements to override federal legislation on torture and other issues;
*approving massive illegal wiretaps in violation of the Fourth Amendment;
*suspending habeas corpus and Sixth Amendment due process rights in the indefinite imprisonment and torture of detainees.
