Depleted Uranium Stories Breaking Through Media

Bob Nichols, an investigative reporter for the San Francisco Bay View, tells me that U.S. Airforce Lt. Col. Roger Helbig often threatens media outlets to intinidate them into not covering stories about depleted uranium and radiation. Today, Nichols says, he's been unsuccessfully threatening Rob McConnell, host of http://www.xzone-radio.com

...which at 11 p.m. ET this evening and for the following three hours will be covering the story.

Dr. Doug Rokke is a retired and disabled Army Reserve officer who served in the military since 1967. He is an expert on the health and environmental effects of nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare. During Gulf War 1 he served as member of "Bauer's Raiders" the 3rd U.S. Army Medical Command's nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare special operations, teaching, and response team. He also was responsible for cleaning up the mess left by use of uranium munitions, wrote the after action reports, and then was recalled to active duty as the Director of the U.S. Army Depleted Uranium Project. He conducted and superviased research and field tests to write now adopted U.S. Army Regulation 700-48 and ignored depleted uranium training and education programs that require immediate mdical care for all DU casualties and thorough environmental remediation. Dr. Rokke is a confirmed DU casualty and is recovering from recent surgery who repair DU induced medical problems. He is a dedicated warrior who is still trying to ensure that medical care is provided to all casulties and that thorough environmental remediation is completed as required by U.S. Army and Department of Defense orders and regulations. Consequently he has been and is subjected to continuous retaliation orchestrated by Department of Defense officials.

Married Twice. My second wife Caren is the daughter of a Vietnam Veteran who was a tank commander, wounded and in the Agent Orange registry.

I also have 3 stepsons. Two are autistic. Both grandfathers were in vietnam. First biological daughter has undiagnosed psychological problems. Born April 1993

Second Daughter is in special education program and progressing. Born April 2003.

Herbert R. Reed, 52 years Old, Retired SSG U.S. Army
Received Medical Retirement after injured in Iraq in 2003, (Neck, Titanium Plate and four screws in C spine., Nerve damage in Left leg, left arm, lower back Herniated Disc, Rotator Cuff injury, PTSD, Because i only had nineteen years nine months twenty day and not the full twenty years i don't receive any monotary retirement from the Army, just a medical release. All that time and no pension, like it was my fault.
Served in Iraq 2003 with the 442 Military Police Company, out of Orangeburg New York National Guard. Upon first notifying Military of our DU exposure we were told that it was all in our head and was sent to see a doctor. Contaminated by DU while serving in Iraq in 2003, Tested Positive for exposure. Doctor Assaf Durakovic collected specimens to be Analyzed in Germany by Doctor Axel Gerdes, in Frankfurt. ( NY Daily News paid for testing because the Military would not test us at the time. ) Upon receiving our written results from Germany the Military then tested us but said we were not contaminated. We later found out that there testing method was not able to pick up small particles in our system like the test conducted in Germany. We were then told that the testing conducted in Germany was not conducted in a clean enviroment so the results were no good.
Prior to serving in Iraq, I was an Assistant Deputy Warden for the New York City Correction Department, working on Rikers Island. (upon returning I could not return to work because of my injuries.)
February 28th 206, had surgery to remove tumor from around thyroid, awaiting test results. I presently on numerous narcotics twenty four hours a day seven days a week.( Methadone, Morphine, T izanidine, Citalopram, Bisacodyl, Docusate, Sildenafil, Diazepam.)

Joan Walker, a recently retired Kindergarten teacher from the most famous small town in the world, Woodstock. is the "point person" for passage of the New York National Guard Testing/Registry/Task Force Bill. She is with New Yorkers in Support of the NY National Guard Testing/Task ForceBill, a coalition of veterans, families of veterans and activists in depleted uranium education.

The NY Bill, simlar to the Connecticut Bill passed last June, was introduced in the NY Assembly by Assemblyman Jeffry Dinowitz, Democrat, and in the NY Senate by Senator Thomas Morahan, a Republican. The bill is now being analyzed by the Veterans' Committes in both houses .
