The Truth About Jane Harman

Stripping Janey Down
Who’s backing Harman? Corporations and corporate reptiles. of which she’s proud as punch, smugly averring a fitness in being outed as the Democratic Party’s best Republican (a spot too many fellow Dems could equally qualify for...oh, why hello, Dianne!). But let’s look at her record, shall we? She:
* Voted for the Patriot Act (HR3162 - 10/24/01);
* Voted for Patriot Act Renewal (HR3199 - 7/21/05);
* Voted again for Patriot Act re-Renewal (HR4659 - 5/7/06);
* Voted to keep keep the Guantanamo Prisons (HR2601 - 7/20/05);
* Voted against Dennis Kucinich’s No Nukes in Space measure (HR2601- 7/20/05);
* Voted for Iraq War Authorization (HJ Res. 114 - 10/10/02), giving George Bush dictatorial powers literally against the Constitution (hmmm, now what should we call that? I’m sure there’s a legal term);
* Voted to oppose support for an International Criminal Court (HR4546 -5/10/02);
* Voted to oppose UN inspections/negotiations to avoid the Iraq War (HJ Res. 114 - 10/10/02);
* Voted to oppose a block to funding for new nuclear weapons (HR4546 - 5/9/02);
* Supported all kinds of votes to restrain and eradicate due process...
...and, well, I don’t have three weeks to list them all and neither to you, to read them. Still, wotta chalkboard, hm? She also adores almost all the free trade agreements ever crafted, instruments ruining this country and the world - they, after all, led by Clinton’s uber-agreement, GATT, began the mad offshoring stampede, amongst manifold other sins. So, with Janey-Come-Lately, you know exactly what you’re getting for your vote. What about Winograd?

She knows the Dems are horribly flawed and is calling for major fixes in the party right now, leading up a decisive battle for the soul of the enclave (she nearly wrested recognition away from Harman in the Sacramento Dem convention). She’s out stumping, speaking, and organizing every day (when was the last time you saw that?) wants out of Iraq, wants War Dept. funds redirected to the U.S. and its crises at home, is pro-worker and pro-choice, and has a wealth of ideas for the educational system, herself an ex-teacher. She also has a great PR person, Ilene Proctor, who knows how to fight the good fight and give no quarter. Both put up one hell of an unhedging battle and aren’t afraid to get a bit unorthodox about it, in the competition’s face, but smiling and laying everything on the table every step of the way.
Winograd’s locking horns with Harman in debate, she’s walking against the war right here in the 36th, meeting with citizens constantly, setting poll watchers to oversee the June 6 contest, avidly and outspokenly anti-Vote Fraud, educating against danger of such in early voting, and basically acting like the kind of feisty candidate someone like Will Rogers would’ve loved to meet. What may come as a surprise is she’s not really fighting so much against bad politicians as for the country, an important distinction. Her issues run well beyond the District but she’s more than happy to start in the backyard, at home. The California Dem party is absolutely rotten with centrist accomodationists: Dianne Feinstein, Debra Bowen, Jane Harman, etc. It’s well past time we kicked them all out of office - in fact, every incumbent of every stripe needs to go, at every level, all thoughout the country, and there’s no better way to start than right here, right now.
All politics are indeed local. Frankly, as a two-decade+ citizen of the 36th, I haven’t been this enthused about a candidate in many a year. I’ll be enjoying my Memorial Day while thinking about the country, holding no doubts whatsoever about who should be representing the district come June 6. And Smedley Butler? Well, Harman’s exactly the sort of company woman he reserved his ire for.

All Democrats care about is gun-control
Harman's ideological link with the Democrats and the Left is support for gun-control and increased government spending. Democrats will sell their souls for gun-controls (and increased federal funding of all sorts of things). So long as Harman is for gun-control and increased federal spending, even if she supports the most repressive anti-civil liberties measures and the most unjust bloody wars, Democrats will still vote for her.
Fact is, the 36th is a marginal district. If Harman went to the left in the sense of opposing the war or opposing Bush or opposing increased military spending or opposing the drug war or opposing the so-called "patriot act", the Republican would demogogue and win. That's what almost happened to Harman in 1994, when Republican Susan Brooks almost unseated her. Except for the fact that there was a Libertarian on the ballot who syphoned off Brooks's probable margin of victory, the Republican would have won that year, and likely Harman would have been history.
In 1998, Harman was suckered by the local NRA into running for governor. They're smart. They knew Harman's weakness was her over-inflated ego. So, they had their people call her offices and say what a wonderful governor she would make. Of course, Harman went for it hook, line and sinker. The local NRA knew she would never beat the Gray Davis machine in the primary. Either way, it uprooted her from the 36th District. However, it still backfired on them. The end result was the election of anti-gun Harman/Bush clone, Republican Steve Kuykendall in 1998.
Harman was back in 2000, facing now incumbent Republican Kuykendall, who she narrowly defeated. Again, the Libertarians held the balance of power, having a vendetta against Kuykendall for his support of anti-gun measures, likely caused his defeat.
Understand the 36th district. It is an affluent, suburban, beach district. The main industries are defense industries -- TRW, Northrup, Raytheon -- and shipping and import/export at the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
So, Harman is the perfect candidate -- willing to vote for huge defense spending and war, "free" trade, government spending, environmental protection and gun-control. The district is filled with affluent, suburbanite, defense worker, "boobus Americani" (as H. L. Mencken would have called them). So long as Harman pushes government spending and gun-control and is pro-choice, she'll win the Democratic primary, regardless of any of her other repressive or militaristic positions. The propects of any peace candidate unseating Harman -- either Democratic or Republican is slim.
ONE WORD
COLLUSION
Jane Harman, who sits on the review committee of Bush's super-secret NSA spy program and has been on National T.V. twice in the last five months to all but declair, that this program, the way it is being run, is an illegal program. Yet she stands by her oath to the president to remain silent over her Oath to her country and to the Republic from which she was sent to represent.
With her admissions on record, on National T.V., there is only one word that can plausibly describe her lack of conviction to her Oath to her country in favor of her alligience to the president; COLLUSION
The Oath of Office required by the sixth article of the Constitution of the United States, and as provided by section 2 of the act of May 13, 1884 (23 Stat. 22), to be administered to Members, Resident Commissioner, and Delegates of the House of Representatives, the text of which is carried in 5 U.S.C. 3331:
