Troops Home Fast

I have camped out in front of George Bush's ranch, marched in rallies, lobbied Congress, gone to jail, and much more to stop the devastating war in Iraq and bring our troops home. Now it's time to do more.
Along with other activists and the peace groups Gold Star Families for Peace and CODEPINK, I will be starting an open-ended hunger strike, called Troops Home Fast, on July 4 th. We will start the fast in Washington DC, in front of the White House, and then move to Camp Casey (outside Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas) in mid-August. We hope the fast will galvanize public attention, invigorate the peace movement, build pressure on elected officials, and get our troops back home!
As a sign of solidarity, we are asking you to join us by fasting for at least one day. It could be on July 4, our launch date, or any other time during the summer. You can fast from wherever you are, or better yet, join us in Washington DC or Crawford, Texas. We've already received commitments from wonderful allies such as Willie Nelson, Danny Glover, Dick Gregory and Dolores Huerta, as well as military veterans, religious leaders, students, and women's groups.

Perhaps you should fast from getting in front of a camera for a day to show your sacrifice? That would show more resolve from an ego maniac than living off all of that body fat for one day.

"open ended" hunger strike? What the hell is that? Does that mean you can fast for a few hours and then eat something? Not a very big commitment. Seems to me you are tying yourself to the terrorists that are in Guantanamo doing the same thing. Perhaps you should spend the 4th reading the Constitution of the United States and perhaps you can learn a few things about what our country was formed on and what we have and will always have to fight for....nothing in life is free...except for the money you are making for being a complete waste of a human life.

If you don't understand the terminology, are unfamiliar with current events, or need a dumbed-down explanation of the contents of the Constitution, ask someone privately before making a fool of yourself publicly (unless, of course, you hope to be president some day, in which case, keep it up....you're well on your way).

So the ability to pronounce the word "peninsula" correctly determines one's self worth and value as contributing member of society? Nice one, you just belittled anyone who has come to this country and carries an accent or anyone (including liberals) who come from a state that has an accent that makes some words sound difficult to understand. I feel so great that we have "progressive" (actually more like communist) minded individuals such as yourself to look after the nation, especially since in all your "infinite (Marxist) wisdom" you still manage to be intolerant even though your types say they are so "tolerant" and "progressive". An invitation
Ms. Sheehan, instead of starving yourself, maybe you should do something tangible. Back up all your hyperbole and rhetoric, get on a plane, c'mon over to Iraq, and have a little discussion with the insurgents. I'm sure they'll quickly come to see the wisdom of your ways and be more than happy to lay down their arms. And while you're here, perhaps you can get all the warring factions of Islam to join hands and unite as one.
I once had sympathy for you, as I have for all mothers who have lost a son. Now, however, I feel only contempt as you continue to dishonor your son by openly mocking something he truly believed in, something he felt strongly enough to fight and die for.
But then again, this isn't about your son, honor, or even dignity. It's all about Cindy, isn't it.

Your a pathetic excuse for an American, Cindy. You don't support the troops one bit. If you actually supported the troops, then you would support them in whatever mission they are in.
I support the war because I actually CARE about my country and I know that we need to rid the world of terrorists who hate our country and our way of life. Simply getting the troops out of Iraq would be just plain fucking stupid, because it would signify that we can't complete the mission.
Remember Vietnam? What happened when we pulled out? Did Vietnam get better? No. MILLIONS DIED AND WERE SLAUGHTERED BY THE VIETCONG. Do you want this to happen again, Cindy? I sure as hell don't want it to happen again, but history has repeated itself time and time again.
When people join the military, they do so because they don't mind putting their life on the line to serve their country. George Bush didn't place these people in harms way, the soldiers simply chose to serve their country and follow military orders.
With that said, I wish you the best of luck in your fast. Hopefully you'll come to your senses sometime within the first week and you'll realize that what your doing is pretty stupid.

Many soldiers, including myself, who served in Iraq disagree with this war, and some disagree with war in general. It does'nt mean that we don't love our country or follow orders. It just means that through experience (destruction of Iraqi homes, cities, families), some have come to question what purpose war really serves.
I'm sure you can make an intelligent case for the Iraq war! However, please don't call someone a nitwit just because they want peace. Be compasionate to people! I don't agree with your beliefs on this war, but I understand that eventhough we are different we both love our country. thanks

I am so sorry for the lost of your son. But your son signed up to join the military because he wanted to serve his country no matter what the cost was and no matter what the mission was. My son is 17 years old and he wants to join the military. This has been his desire since he has been 14 years old. No, I don't like it and I wish that he would have a desire to do something else. But this is what he wants to do and this is what your son wanted to do. So I feel that your mission is a dishonor to your son. No, your son did not want to die, but when you join the military, there is always that change. But there was a mission that your son wanted to fill. You need to let it rest!!!
