Yo, whassup with all this war s***? ponders Bush
By STEPHEN MCGINTY, The Scotsman, UK
WORDS often fail George Bush, but yesterday the president of the United States added some new phrases to the language of international diplomacy.
A live microphone at the G8 summit picked up Mr Bush talking more like a teenager than leader of the free world. In a conversation with Tony Blair, the president said of the continuing strife in the Middle East that Syria should press Hezbollah to "stop doing this s***". Mr Bush had first attracted the Prime Minister's attention by saying: "Yo, Blair. How are you doing?"
This is not the first time Mr Bush has suffered the indignity of private communications becoming public. Last year, at a United Nations meeting, he passed a note to Condoleezza Rice, his secretary of state, saying: "I think I need a bathroom break. Is this possible?"
Yesterday's dialogue gave an insight into the president and the Prime Minister's personal relationship. Mr Bush thanked Mr Blair for his gift of a sweater, while the latter offered to visit the Middle East to lay the groundwork for a follow-up visit by Ms Rice.
The dialogue also revealed the president's preference for Diet Coke and his growing frustration with the UN. During the closing lunch at the G8 summit in St Petersburg in Russia, Mr Bush also expressed his disgust with the militant Islamic group and its backers in Syria. He told Mr Blair he felt like telling Kofi Annan, the UN secretary-general, to phone Bashar Assad, the Syrian president, to "make something happen".
Later, in a confused exchange with Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, Mr Bush expressed his amazement that it will take Mr Putin just as long to fly home to Moscow as it will take him to fly back to Washington. Mr Putin's reply could not be heard.
Mr Bush said: "You eight hours? Me too. Russia's a big country and you're a big country. Takes him eight hours to fly home. Russia's big and so is China."
Mr Bush is not the first US president to make a microphone faux pas. In 1984, Ronald Reagan, unaware a microphone was live, cracked a joke and said: "My fellow Americans, I am pleased to tell you today that I have signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes."
The transcript
Bush: Yo, Blair. How are you doing?
Blair: I’m just...
Bush: You’re leaving?
Blair: No, no, no, not yet. On this trade thingy... (inaudible)
Bush: Yeah, I told that to the man.
Blair: Are you planning to say that here or not?
Bush: If you want me to.
Blair: Well, it’s just that if the discussion arises...
Bush: I just want some movement.
Blair: Yeah.
Bush: Yesterday we didn’t see much movement.
Blair: No, no, it may be that it’s not, it may be that it’s impossible.
Bush: I am prepared to say it.
Blair: But it’s just I think that we need to be an opposition...
Bush: Who is introducing the trade?
Blair: Angela Merkel, the German chancellor.
Bush: Tell her to call ’em.
Blair: Yes.
Bush: Tell her to put him on, them on the spot. Thanks for [inaudible] it’s awfully thoughtful of you.
Blair: It’s a pleasure.
Bush: I know you picked it out yourself.
Blair: Oh, absolutely, in fact [inaudible].
Bush: What about Kofi? [inaudible] His attitude to ceasefire and everything else ... happens.
Blair: Yeah, no I think the [inaudible] is really difficult. We can’t stop this unless you get this international business agreed.
Bush: Yeah.
Blair: I don’t know what you guys have talked about, but as I say I am perfectly happy to try and see what the lie of the land is, but you need that done quickly because otherwise it will spiral.
Bush: I think Condi is going to go pretty soon.
Blair: But that’s, that’s, that’s all that matters. But if you... you see it will take some time to get that together.
Bush: Yeah, yeah.
Blair: But at least it gives people...
Bush: It’s a process, I agree. I told her your offer to...
Blair: Well...it’s only if I mean... you know. If she’s got a..., or if she needs the ground prepared as it were... Because obviously if she goes out, she’s got to succeed, if it were, whereas I can go out and just talk.
Bush: You see, the ... thing is what they need to do is to get Syria, to get Hezbollah to stop doing this s*** and it’s over.
Blair: [inaudible]
Bush: [inaudible]
Blair: Syria.
Bush: Why?
Blair: Because I think this is all part of the same thing.
Bush: Yeah.
Blair: What does he think? He thinks if Lebanon turns out fine, if we get a solution in Israel and Palestine, Iraq goes in the right way...
Bush: Yeah, yeah, he is sweet.
Blair: He is honey. And that’s what the whole thing is about. It’s the same with Iraq.
Bush: I felt like telling Kofi to call, to get on the phone to Assad and make something happen.
Blair: Yeah.
Bush: [inaudible]
Blair: [inaudible]
Bush: We are not blaming the Lebanese government.
Blair: Is this...? (At this point Blair taps the microphone in front of him and the sound is cut.)

Like he has a clue? I never thought I would hear a president talk like a punk and make our demon-ocracy look like the word he "used" and the people of this great land like morons! Like Assad of Syria, who has been nothing but compliant with us can control Hezballah! And if it is the case and he knows it why are we not better friends with them? One of the CIA centers after 911 was Syria, some thing scamy going on... Here is what an Israeli author thinks : http://www.middleeast.org/launch/redirect.cgi?a=&num=453

These guys are on Jesus Juice folks and they drank from the wrong jug...
No manners either!
Did you see the decider sitting there cramming food into his face and talking with his mouth full? Apparently, Barbara did not teach this dim-wit not to talk with his mouth full! Disgusting!
Table Manners
Are hardly what is at issue here.
If you are worried about that sort of thing, go by a book by Martha Stewart.
Vietnam Vet
Apparently you have a problem with reading and comprehension! The issue was/is the demeanor and behavior of this man we call president at an important conference. I am not, to use your words, worried about that sort of thing. I am worried that we have an individual calling himself the president that fails on many occasions to ACT with the dignity that position deserves. One does not need to refer to Martha Stewart for that type advice -- it is just common sense and decency!
What am I Missing?
I have a problem with reading and comprehension? How so?
My point is that 40 Iraqis being killed everyday is a lot more important than whether or not the president CHEWS WITH HIS MOUTH OPEN.
Of all things to pick out of this wildly interesting window into the real discousce of modern politics, you guys are going to harp on Table Manners.
Stalin was a great dresser, from what I understand, and Churchill couldn't keep his hair combed straight to save his life.
Who would you put in charge?
You still just don't get it!
There is a lot that can be said about the Iraqi invasion and how many Iraqis are being killed daily; but you still miss the point: READ THE TITLE OF THE ARTICLE! It is about this man's lack of proper demeanor at an important conference. And, its not just "you guys" looking at the situation: it has been noted internationally, in case you haven't noticed. Your analogy has nothing to do with the subject at hand either! What REALLY pisses you off is that you are probably a bush apologist that just doesn't like folks taking note of his lack of sophistication in anything he does!
Well, At Least I Got My Laugh for the Day
Me, a Bush Apologist? That really *is* funny.
Did you happen let your eyes wonder a few textareas North? Read "Yankee Snot" (Or any other of my posts as "Resonator") and then decide if I'm a Bush Apologist.
(I've been posting as "Resonator" on ADS since January, and we sadly lost about 2000 nodes somewhere in April due to technical difficulties.) Do a search. Check it out. See what you think.
As for the title of the article, it is:
"Yo, whassup with all this war s***? ponders Bush"
"All this s***" refers to the situation in the Middle East, so my remarks are definitely on topic. Furthermore, my remarks are directly on the topic of "proper demeanor", and I am arguing the negative side of the issue.
For the last time: I think we should be going after Bush for War Crimes against Humanity, High Crimes and Midemeanors for Abrogating just about every Amendment in the Constitution: Warrantless Wiretaps, the Katrina Failure, The Lies & Perjury with regard to War, the Decision to New Orleans rot. Not for swearing.
I think "improper demeanor at a G8 meeting" is a laughably minor offense compared to other things that have happened (or not happened) in the Bush Tenure.
We need to stay focused on the mission statement of the site and *NOT* get sidetracked on minutia.
You still just don't get it!
You still don't get it, so I quit! No one is going to go back and read all your previous posts just because its you. No one is denying that the man has, and will probably continue, to cause havoc in the nation and maybe even the world, BUT, again, that was not the emphasis of this article. When one posts a comment, it should be about the issue at hand, not other issues, even if they are more important. But, if you consider blunders in conversation, demeanor, and common good manners to be a "minor offense", while supposedly representing this nation, well that is your opinion. From all the posts on other sites, your OPINION is far from shared by the majority.
Table Manners ARE at Issue Here!
Table manners would not be at issue here, if a fork were misplaced or used improperly for salad rather than dessert...
HOWEVER, this character (bushco) represents the United States and by his example, Americans are not only stupid, but display a complete lack of respect for others. Simple manners are a symbol of respect.
What I got from this disgusting display is that bushco respects noone and can't formulate a sentence w/o some street language. The guy is a buffon, a dullard and has no respect for others. I think his lack of table manners (AT A G-8 SUMMIT, NO LESS!) tell more about this guy than most of the 'punditry', pro and/or con.
The Battle Lines of WW III are Drawn...
And Israel can be thought to have fired the opening salvo, on a pretext as ridiculous as the notion of WMD's in Iraq.
Define the sides:
In the Left Corner: The Project for the New American Century and the American Military Industrial Complex. The British Crown and the British Military Industrial Complex.
Allied here is most of Europe in varying degrees and the moderate Sunni Arab governments, even if the street in Europe/Sunni Arabia has its differences and doubts.
Worth noting: the American "street", including an "AfterDowning" one, has ITS doubts, as well.
In the Other Corner: Shiite, Fundamentalist Islam. Anyone seeking to oppose "Group One".
Inert Ingredients: The rest of the world.
At Issue for Group One: World domination and control of the petroleum resources in Iraq and Iran. "Modernization" of the Middle East. A WalMart in every Casbah.
At Issue for Group Two: Destruction of Israel. Staying alive.
Major Questions Affecting the Outcome: Will, respectively: Pakistan, India, China, Russia, and/or the Muslim street simply allow the PNAC ("Group One") to roll? Or will any of these potentially fractious factions come down, in some or whole part, on the side of Iran (Leading "Group Two")?
So there you have it.
"Looks like i pick the wrong week to quit sniffing glue" -- Airplane, The Movie, 1980
this is the breaking point
Bush is finally losing it. He's finally, completely losing touch with reality. The reason being - he can't stand to be this unpopular. So he's doing the polite, New England thing to do, which is - pretend that it doesn't exist, and maybe it will go away. This is not a Texan response. I knew that sooner or later Bush would reach a breaking point, where his veneer of Texas and Middle America would give way and he would be recognized as the spoiled Yankee snot that he is. I think this is it. He's really so completely embarrassed inside that he has absolutely no idea how to behave.
Like Zaphod Beeblebrox - WITHOUT the charisma.
Yankee Snot?
You are saying that "Yankees" ( by which I presume you mean persons from the former "Union" states of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland ) are axiomatically presumed to be "spoiled", "snotty", delusional, unable to cope with reality, and capable only of a timid "politeness" when confronted with a problem?
Let me remind you that "Yankees" founded the Colonies, founded the United States, wrote the Declaration of Independence (On June 11, 1776, a committee consisting of John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, Thomas Jefferson of Virginia, Robert R. Livingston of New York, and Roger Sherman of Connecticut (the "Committee of Five"), was formed to draft a suitable declaration to frame this resolution...), formed the government, fought and expelled the British, largely on "Yankee" soil, and when the time came, were fought for the UNITY of the United States of America.
What Precisely is a Texan/Middle American Response? Gouging the fuck out of the entire country on Gasoline Prices? Committing Suicide when found guilty of accounting fraud and intentional failure to provide critical services to the duly owing public? Is that it?
Texas was a piss poor patch of scrubrush & tumbleweed, when we Yankees had been engaged in the annual study of physics, law, and philosophy at Harvard for over 150 years, my friend. You got a Dallas and a Houston largely because we snotty Yankess moved there and decided to stay.
With revisiting the civil war, let me just say I find your commentary to be extremely offensive, and would like to propose an alternate solution to the "President's" Meltdown:
He is showing his true Texas colors in all their glory: coarse, unsophisticated, and mean. Bush needed "special assistance" to avoid flunking out of Yale and was never accepted by "polite" New England society. He is simply too stupid, then and now.
When the going gets tough you fall back on what you know and what you are.
Like Zaphod Beeblebrox -- without the Zap, the Beeble or the hod-rox.
notice how Putin made this moron into the LAUGHING STOCK ..
notice how the whole entire world laughed at moron hitlerchimp Bush who's drugs weren't apparently working too well, and allowed him to come across as the truly brain dead moron dictator he really is.
Putin should have dick slapped the son of a bitch in front of the SS men the moron had there to fellate him into being able to chimp around with his butthole buddy, Blair.
but it was worth hearing the audio clip where the whole press corps of the world LAUGHED AT THIS MORON SON OF A BITCH because the world sees him as the true moron and fucking idiot he is and always has been. Anyone wanna guess how this so called pilot couldn't figure out how it takes 8 hours for Putin to fly home? Back seat rider all the way, thru vietnam, this draft dodging, cocaine snorting pile of shit.
