Canadian Asylum Seekers Project
By Judy Homanich
There are 24 U.S. war resisters who are seeking asylum in Canada
(www.resisters.ca) rather than take part in this illegal, immoral war
-- and dozens more who are living underground. All of these courageous
men and women need -- deserve! -- our support and encouragement. The
best way to do that (besides sending a monetary donation) is by
writing a short note to Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada and
Michael Wilson, Canadian Ambassador to the U.S. We need to remind them
that the majority of Americans, like the majority of Canadians, are
against this war. We need to remind them that the world is watching,
waiting to see if they do the right thing. They need to stop trying to
please George Bush and instead follow the lead of Canadians who are in
favor of granting asylum to the U.S. war resisters.
"Support the Troops" must be more than a slogan or words on a
magnet. And it must include the war resisters in Canada (as well as
those here in the U.S.). Please show your support by sending messages
to Prime Minister Harper and Ambassador Wilson at the following
addresses:

Thanks to AfterDowning Street.org for helping to spread the word about the Canada Asylum Seekers Project. And special thanks to Judy Homanich for her intiative and commitment to supporting the courageous young men and women who have gone AWOL and come to Canada because of their opposition to the Iraq War.
The War Resisters Support Campaign in Canada strongly suuports the Canada Asylum Seekers Project and urges every American who opposes the Iraq War to get behind it. Let's flood Prime Minister Stephen Harper's mailbox with cards and emails telling him to Let The War Resisters Stay in Canada. He needs to understand that George Bush does not speak for the majority of Americans -- that Canada's real friends are not in the White House and the Pentagon, but across America, wherever people say Stop The War! Bring The Troops Home!
You can find more information on the War Resisters Support Campaign, and on the war resisters themselves, by visiting www.resisters.ca. Please visit us -- and don't forget to tell Prime Minister Harper and Ambassador Michael Wilson to Let Them Stay!
Peace,

Good luck. You'll need it.
If Tony Blair is Bush's poodle (and he is) then Stevie Harper is Bush's gerbil.
You'd be more likely to succeed by appealing directly to the Canadian people, but getting the news media to cooperate in that effort won't be an easy task either.
