Senate gives final approval to detainee bill
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate on Thursday gave final approval to a bill for tough interrogations and prosecutions of terrorism suspects, as President George W. Bush prevailed after a series of setbacks on his detainee policies.
The Senate passed the bill 65-34, hours after Bush was on Capitol Hill urging Republicans to stay behind the high-profile measure ahead of November 7 elections that will determine control of Congress.
The House of Representatives passed the same measure on Wednesday and must make a technical change to reconcile it with the Senate's. Bush was expected to sign it soon afterwards.
While the bill cleared the Senate by a comfortable margin, it barely survived a challenge earlier in the day that would have delayed it and possibly killed it.
The bill sets standards for interrogating suspects, but through a complex set of rules that human rights groups said could allow harsh techniques that border on torture such as sleep deprivation and induced hypothermia.
It establishes military tribunals that would give defendants access to classified evidence being used to convict them, and allow limited use of evidence obtained by coercion. The bill also expands the definition of "enemy combatants" to include those who provide weapons, money and other support to terrorist groups.

BTW, How many times have you played and sung to HE SWAPPED THE BOTTLE FOR THE BIBLE? I must have played and sung to it 100 times since I came across it here on ADS.org Monday morning. I even made copies of the lyrics and gave them to the high school students at their bus stop across the street from my office on Wednesday. I'm not sure if they will respond as they may too busy with their video games, etc. to care. What a shame. I told the one young lady who seemed interested that I've lived a decent life for 54+ years but they have their futures ahead of them. I urged them to listen to the lyrics and pay attention to the photos in the video.

By the way, if you knew anything about the stock market, you would know that all the liquidity that poured into it, for a rosy finish in the third quarter, put in a huge double top formation. Anyone who is able to read a chart would see this. Watch next week as the rats jump ship. POOF!

Every elected official, senator or congressman, Republican or Democrat whom voted in favor of this bill should be sent a stong message from the American people - VOTE THEM OUT OF OFFICE. To pass this serves to characterize our nation as one that is not above the Jihadist mentality. Shame on those men and women who were elected to represent the majority of their consitituants, yet serve the right-wing agenda of the Bush administration like lap dogs.
