Dave, I can't make it there for these actions. Yesterday I posted up, and sent out, a Writeup on those Military Personal Killed in Iraq since 2003. At the bottom I added this:

"What I would like to see, though I probably will not stay up, is at the Stroke of One Second Past Twelve Midnight tomorrow night that Huge Portions Of, or the Whole Time Square Crowd ‘FALL SILENT’ with Lite Candles, in Silent Prayer or Thought, of Peace and Respect for the Deaths and Maimings We Have Caused In Iraq To The Iraqi People and Our Own Military Personal because of the Greed and Wants of a Handful of Extremely Misguided Group which will cause this Nation and the World long lasting Extremely Negative Results!!"

If there is any type of celebration for News Years Eve, in DC, and you all are attending, you might want to try and get many in the crowd to do what I discribed above, and pass this idea on to those in New York and elsewhere. The Camera's will be rolling and the World watches 'Times Square'!!

I marched in the old days in Orono, Maine with Steve King...I have a picture. I also marched in Berlin, Freiburg, Paris, Chicago, Boston, WASH. DC and in the South (met MLK in Boston in 1966) before I got drafted in 1969. Sounds like it was a full time job, but it wasn't. I would have become an MLK groupie if I could have.

Nowadays I'm unable to "suit-up and show-up". Not that I miss it, though. There were plenty of cracked heads and CN(?) gas, I don't miss that much.

The thing I learned from that era, though, is that all politics is LOCAL. LOCAL, like one's family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, school boards (ex.) all the way up the food chain.

We are unable to change the hearts and minds of the people we know by making them look foolish or embarrassing them. Being armed with the FACTS and delivering the FACTS with a dose of sugar wins the day.

There are plenty of talking heads who can and will carry the big message, not that anyone can't be a talking head ("pundants", hehehe, purposely misspelled but often thusly pronounced). As far as I know the job is open, but the real seeds are planted close to home.

It's the hard way, no real glory in it, (although my Mother admitted late in her life that my Dad, ret. Navy Officer from WW II, admitted I had been right all along; that was a "big feeling"), but it's the only way that works.

The cloisterd Roman Catholic Church was lousy at recruiting so it ended up forcing people into it ranks. Taking that as an example, no point in biting off too much to chew, ending up cloistered in some camp somewhere.

One of the responsibilities of citizenship is to live productively in one's own neighborhood without too much recognition.
