The Ides of March

A few days ago, I sent out a frustrated email to a small listserv that includes some major peace activists in the nation, including Dennis and Elizabeth Kucinich. My email reads as follows:
With the impending invasion of Iran, which will probably turn nuclear (or “nukular” as some say), why is no member of Congress introducing Articles of Impeachment?
We live in a rogue state…who will stop them?
I received the standard reply that I receive from many of our dear anti-war, progressive Congressional Reps, from Dennis’ wife, Elizabeth: DK feels that impeachment is a distraction of the real issue which is ending the war in Iraq.
Of course I agree that Iraq is the real issue, but King George has said himself that the war isn’t ending while he is president. And, as the occupation of Iraq has been an unmitigated failure, an invasion of Iran (by the US or Israel) would be the prelude to Armageddon.
Also, if we subtract the issues of Iran and Iraq, King George has violated international law and has ripped our Constitution into confetti sized pieces. From unlawful invasions to stealing unprecedented executive powers using his fabricated “war on terror” BushCo has committed many impeachable offenses. Impeachment proceedings would compliment the peace movement…not distract or detract from it.
A couple of millennia ago there was a leader of a Republic that took imperial powers upon himself and declared himself “dictator for life”…his name was Julius Caesar. On the Ides of March (44 B.C.), some very reluctantly patriotic Senators who wanted to halt the slide of Rome from a Republic into an empire ruled by a dictator, took matters into their own hands and assassinated Julius Caesar on the “Ides of March,” which is today.
Frustrated by this Congress, again, giving King George the green light for further wars of aggression, on the Ides of March, 2007, Rep. Dennis Kucinich took matters peacefully and patriotically into his own hands and with courage and integrity said the “I” word on the House floor in these remarks:
This House cannot avoid its Constitutionally authorized responsibility to restrain abuse of the Executive Branch.
The Administration has been preparing for an aggressive war against Iran.
There is no solid, direct evidence that Iran has the intention of attacking the United States or its allies.
The US is a signatory to the UN Charter, a constituent treaty among the nations of the world. Article II, Section 4 of the UN Charter states: “all members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state…” Even the threat of a war of aggression is illegal.
Article VI of the US Constitution makes such treaties the Supreme Law of the Land. This Administration has openly threatened aggression against Iran in violation of the US Constitution and UN Charter.
This week the House Appropriations Committee removed language from the Iraq war funding bill requiring the Administration, under Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the Constitution, to seek permission before it launched an attack against Iran.
Since war with Iran is an option of this Administration and since such a war is patently illegal, then impeachment may well be the only remedy which remains to stop a war of aggression against Iran.
The Congressional power of impeachment is the only thing that can restrain King George and his criminal court. Congress has given King George their powers to declare war and has not maintained its duty as a check on his illegal regal progression. If Congress doesn’t snatch some of that power back, they will become as ineffectual and irrelevant as the Roman Senate under Julius' replacement, his nephew Caesar Augustus.
We as a progressive peace community need to thank and support Rep. Kucinich in his courageous stance against further dictatorial power grabs from The Usurpers.

I would be much more inclined to think that such men as Dennis Kucinich, Ron Paul, John Conners and others were great patriotic leaders if I actually saw them doing something to impeach little George and to end this war and to prevent others. Talk is cheap; it is time for action.

It appears that our system of Government is falling apart. Unresponsive to the will of the people. The time is coming for organizing grass root citizen action brigades. Utilizing the second amendment to the constitution to form militias for our own personal defense and to protect what is being given away...our country and our standard of living. When a Government becomes destructive of those means the people reserve the right to alter or abolish that form of Government. Paraprashing the Founding Fathers in their Declaration of Independence from King George the III. We have seen enough to know that our election process is corrupted, and our elected officials who "derive their just powers from the CONSENT of the governed" (Declaration of Independence) are fast facing the reality that I will revoke and annul my consent to be governed by impotent, unresponsive leaders. I will not accept a rule of law that is corrupted and unbalanced. If laws are not enforced on all, then I will not accept their enforcement at all. If laws are nothing for some, then they are nothing.
What's That Old Saying ...
"money talks, but BS wears track shoes"?
That's what we got from Rep. Dennis Kucinich today -- a lot of BS, but no action.
When it comes to saving the Republic, our politicians aren't going to do the job. They're too beholden to moneyed oligarchical interests who want to transform the U.S. into a 14th Century European feudal state (with whatever's left of 21st Century technology), where the rich rule with an iron hand, and the poor rip, claw and tear at each other in order to grab a few crumbs.
It's up to We, the People, to save the Republic, and this Saturday, many people will march with the mission to save the Republic from a tyrannical political cabal which is determined to send us into a New Dark Age, and if we don't step up and fight to save our Republic from destruction, then ... we'll be held accountable for what we didn't do to stop this Administration from, quite literally, getting away with murder.
Unfortunately, my health problems preclude me from attending, but my whole-hearted support is with those who will be marching on Saturday to call for articles of impeachment to be filed against Cheney and G.W.
BS or prelude to action?
I just sent an email to Kucinich thanking him for saying the "I" word in Congress yesterday and encouraging him to take the next logical and urgently necessary step of introducing articles of impeachment.
In your comment you say, "my whole-hearted support is with those who will be marching on Saturday to call for articles of impeachment..." On the other hand you say, "our politicians aren't going to do the job." Do you see the contradiction between those two statements of yours? Note that it must be politicians who introduce articles of impeachment. Let's encourage them to do the right thing, and what better politician is there to encourage than the one who just said the "I" word on the House floor, Dennis Kucinich?
Here's The Point ...
which I was attempting to make; our politicians aren't going to do the job of putting forth articles of impeachment because they're too beholden to the corporate war profiteers who've bankrolled their campaigns and they manage to come up with excuse after excuse to delay and defer taking action against Cheney and G.W.'s crimes.
While you have Democrats like Rep. Kucinich, who'd like to do the right thing, they are influenced by other Democrats (like Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and others) who've cut a deal to keep impeachment off the table until 2008. The problem with that is this ... 2008 may be too late to deal with the crimes of Cheney and G.W., and there may not even BE a 2008 Presidential election, if Cheney and G.W. have anything to say about it.
We, the people, have an obligation to give these Democrats and Republicans an uplifting experience by giving them a good, sharp kick in the backside and reminding them they are not beholden to the corporate men with the moneybags, AIPAC or PNAC; they're beholden to those who voted them into office.
When I said that "my whole-hearted support is with those who will be marching on Saturday to call for articles of impeachment..." , I meant it, because the members of the House must know that the immoral, illegal, criminal conduct of this current Administration cannot and must not be allowed to continue. They must know that we, the people, WILL support them if they draft articles of impeachment, and bring them forth on the House floor. As long as they think that we, the people, are more interested in "American Idol" than in seeing justice done, they're going to let the electoral clock run out on Cheney and G.W.
Also, Rep. Kucinich mustn't be the only voice who says the "I" word; there must be other Congressmen who have the integrity and guts to say the "I" word, in defiance of Speaker Pelosi's desire to keep impeachment off the table, and to back up those words with actions. That means when people march on Saturday, part of the agenda is to get other Congresspeople to get some guts, get off their duffs and do the right thing.
We've already heard too many words about impeachment; what's needed is concrete action.

protest marches alone will NEVER remove
BushCo from office. Only a legal avenue
will do that--either upon fulfillment of his
term of office on January 21, 2009....or
earlier impeachment and conviction by

that is critical in the very House of
Representatives where our Constitution
says that impeachment would have be
initiated. So please don't demean Dennis
for his brave stand. Instead, let's
work to build a fire under all the other
Representatives who are too short- and narrow-
sighted to see the imperative to impeach
Bush & Cheney.
I am not familiar with what it takes to bring
impeachment to the House floor...but I have
discovered that one state legislature (both
houses) passing an impeachment resolution can
initiate such a proceeding in the House of Rep's
when one Congressperson brings their resolution
to the House floor. Four states--NM, VT, WA, &
NJ--have already started such resolutions. Let's
support those resolutions...and give Dennis more
support. Let's drag the House kicking and screaming,
if we must, to bring impeachment against Bush &
Cheney. Please read Elizabeth de la Vega's "U.S.
v. George W. Bush, et al" for the case of fraud and
all the necessary EVIDENCE to convict them. Taking
Bush & Cheney out will certainly stop the Iraq War.

If democrats don't impeach this adminstration before 2008 or we will lose and the republicans will take back control, just like 1988.

If Bill Clinton got impeached for lying about a blowjob and setting up the blueprints, then why is the bush adminstration not impeached for deceiving the american people and congress for the iraq war which caused thousands of lives.

Thank you for telling the cold, hard truth about our elected representatives. Our government is broken, corruption at many levels is the norm with Stepford types the rank and file of our representatives, and King George and his court are out of control. The rest of the world knows this, and there is no embarrassment about the level of arrogance displayed by the biggest bully on the block, us, the USA. Who has the most WMD? Who uses that to frighten into submission any who would disagree with a policy not entirely to US benefit? Who considers massive death and maiming of people co-lateral damage? Who proclaims the noble cause of bringing democracy to Iraq, while at the same time destroying its infrastructure and terrorizing its populace? The world knows the answer to these questions, and many US citizens know too. It's a bleak outlook.

Dennis the Fake
When Dennis was recently handed a bunch of materials on 9/11, and was asked to reopen the investigation, he said he would get his staffers right on it and look at a few issues. The key is he pretended he himself knew nothing. It was on video, and he looked truly comical.
Democratic voter was duped...
Once again, we democrats were duped on November of 2006. We believed Rep. Conyers' months of work and collection into a book giving clear evidence for impeachment. We believed. And we voted. But for what?
I have lived long enough to witness Vietnam and Watergate. Niether can compare to the immorality and ineptness of our Congress today.
I was personally duped into believing the "case for war" when Colin Powell gave his address to the U.N. on February of 2003. I had already changed my military status from IRR to active guard in 2002. Soon after the war started the public learns that his presentation was a sham (and to which he now apologizes for). I was angered and depressed, not only for me as a military member, but for the thousands who have gone to "the sand box" and have been maimed or killed needlessly. There is no question: This is Vietnam Part 2. The glaring difference is that the US followed the French into a war that was already in process, a sad chapter of The Cold War paranoia that gripped the world. Iraq was/is a war based on a total lie (arguably, Pres. Johnson's "smoking gun" was the Gulf of Tonkin incident that never really happened).
The point is this: Our federal government, BOTH Democtrat and Republican, is a FAILED system. David Sirota's book, Hostile Takeover, says it all. President Eisenhower's warning in his last national address about the "corporate military complex" in the US is now a grave reality. We are living it and witnessing its control over our so-called "elected representatives." Both parties offer to the public "corporate sponsored" officals to choose from. Congress doesn't work for "We The People." They work for the people who got them there. As the old saying from Watergate goes, "Just follow the money."
We've gone backwards from the era of Vietnam and Watergate. Instead of learning from those tragedies, our government has only perfected deception and power. The Statue of Liberty now stands in New York harbor as a sad irony of its symbolic hope. I was there to see her last summer. I am quite certain I saw tears streaming from her downcast eyes.
God help us, for our federal government cannot and, worse yet, will not.

Cindy-You are the conscience of our nation and the level of resistence you recieve from Bush and the pure vileness you recieve from the religious and political right , shows just how exceptionally effective you are-- so thank you for all you have done and continue to do for our country, in honor of Casey, to compel others to be informed and to ACT to end the war and seek accountability by the Bush administration for it's incompetence and illegalities. Bush thinks he's God's representative, but God sent us you....
