ORANGE ALERT! U.S. CONSTITUTION BREACHED!
My dear Republican friend and Congressman –
You voted to impeach Bill Clinton for a shameful but private affair. George Bush and Dick Cheney have shredded the Constitution yet their very public “high crimes and misdemeanors” have gone uncensured, uncurbed, and unpunished.
You, sir, took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States—not the party, not the president, but the Constitution.
Yes, Bill Clinton had an affair and lied about it. But “when Clinton lied, nobody died.” This administration has lied us into an unnecessary war that has killed 4,000 Americans and over 600,000 Iraqi civilians, maiming many thousands more, trashing an ancient civilization and creating over 2.5 million refugees!
Additionally, Bush and Cheney have brazenly approved torture, used “signing statements” to eviscerate laws of Congress, conducted illegal surveillance, broken long-
standing treaties, and acted as if they were above and beyond the law.
The question is, sir, do you have the courage to buck your party and repudiate the reprehensible policies of the Bush-Cheney administration? If not, along with many Democrats you are complicit in their crimes. Further, you will be setting a dangerous precedent, leaving a “loaded gun” as conservative scholar Bruce Fein puts it, for any future executive to use against this democracy and the Constitution.
