Two Impeach groups raise cash for ad in Capitol Hill Paper on ‘Nixon Plan’

To get attention from Congress when phone calls and emails are ignored, seek it on Tuesday mornings when they're at coffee in the House cafeterias and enjoying a leisurely read of Roll Call ("The Newspaper of Capitol Hill Since 1955"). Take out an ad that will make them either sit up or gasp. John Edwards took out a full-page ad in Roll Call when he opened his presidential campaign last year. The ad above used the "stopper" that features former President Richard Nixon, as seen by graphic artist Paul Gottlich.

It was placed by our group—plus a Portland (OR) organization—for Tuesday morning, April 29, when the House had just returned to work. It's part of the joint campaign to encourage 44 pro-impeachment House members to repeat the “Nixon Flooding Plan” by filing separate bills against President Bush and/or Vice President Cheney. Back in 1973, 89 of their predecessors joined forces to oust President Nixon by each filing separate impeachment bills. They knew that one bill with 89 cosponsors might be ignored by the House Speaker and/or the House Judiciary Committee chair. But not 89 separate bills (40 were filed in October alone). Nixon quickly resigned a few days before the HJC voted unanimously to impeach him. He knew both houses were poised to quickly oust him, opening the door to a federal trial and possible long imprisonment for high crimes and misdemeanors.

The two groups gambled they could raise enough money to defray the ad's cost ($3,715). They’re still open for contributions if you want to be part of this landmark lobbying effort. (SEE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW.)

The day after the ad appeared (April 30), DC members of CodePink hand-delivered tearsheets of it to those 44 targeted House members.

The next action in the Nixon Flooding Plan will be to point out to those 44 House members that Bush can be impeached on a single charge of bribery (Art. II, Sect. 4) which he just secretly committed in the subprime mortgage scandal. He took $29 billion of taxpayer dollars to bribe one investment bank (J P Morgan/Chase) to bail-out a major subprime mortgage loan shark (Bear Stearns). Bush neither asked Congress for permission to "help" Morgan/Chase, nor did he ask for competitive bids. His bribe opened the door to repeated "bail-outs" of other lenders to save four other troubled banks—Wachovia, Washington Mutual, Merrill Lynch, Citigroup.

All it takes to oust—is one article of impeachment. And the “Bear Stearns Bribe” could be it. The two groups are now strongly urging activist groups and angry taxpayers to make phone calls, to send emails, etc. to—the 44 House members to each file such a bill. The bribe is on record so any HJC investigation should be brief. Moreover, these members will find taking such action would guarantee re-election in November, considering the overall anger of American voters about Bush and Cheney’s impeachable deeds.

"Dumbya".... Worse Than Nixon...."Iraq".... Worse Than Watergate

By Jeff Morris-Saugerties, N.Y.- DeJaVu57

I believe something as unbelievable as War Crimes being planned inside the White House to be too important to disappear from the news radar screen in a couple of days. This deserves a thorough investigation, and should stay on the news page until our Congress actually DOES SOMETHING about it. For starters, maybe consider re-setting the Impeachment Table?

There's no doubt that these torture planning admissions go right to the top of the Team Bush food chain, criminally implicating Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice..... Secy Of State Rice lied to Congress when asked about torture allegations. "The U.S. does not torture" is what she told an investigation committee. Which we now know, and she knew back then, was a complete lie! The President himself has admitted to planning the War Crimes and discussing which specific torture technique would be used, on which detainee.

What a shameful and disgusting path these War Criminals have taken America down over the past seven years! In 2001, if someone had told me what was going to happen in America over the next seven years, I never would have believed it possible. The Patriot Act, NSA warrant less spying on innocent Americans, Military Commissions Act, Suspension of Habeas Corpus, Guantanamo Bay, Pres signing statements, Executive Branch abuses of power, repeatedly citing Executive privilege to cover up their own law breaking.....just to name a few!

Will Congress ignore THIS also, and do nothing about it again? How much more law breaking and Constitution shredding is this Congress willing to turn a blind eye to. This is about WAR CRIMES being PLANNED inside the WHITE HOUSE!!! Will the enablers/accomplice Republicans in Congress put loyalty to the party above loyalty to the Constitution and rule of law again? Will the timid/spineless Democrats in Congress play their same role and again do nothing? Will their lack of courage prevail in the end again? When will the members of both parties see the necessity of upholding their sworn oath To Defend The Constitution?

I remember back in High School learning about WW II and Nazi Germany. I always wondered how could a nation so advanced as Germany was then, follow such mad men? How could it be possible? The way the always "Loyal To The Party" Republicans of today excuse and defend all the criminal acts of this Bush administration, combined with a spineless Congress, has unfortunately given me the answer to that.

The Democratic (slim majority) Congress seems to have adopted a play it safe strategy for both the 06 mid term and 08 Pres elections concerning calling this administration out on all of its shenanigans. If they wanted to, with a little help from the media, they could make the Republican accomplices and enablers of this administration defend these criminal acts under the National spotlight, as I'm sure they would try to. I'd love to see McConnell, Boehner, and maybe even McBu$hCo himself defend torture.

The Democrats want to win back the White House in 08. Any House or Senate Republican who defends Bush and torture will likely be defeated in their next re election attempt, provided there's ample media coverage. A great way for the Democrats to widen both their House and Senate majorities! If only the Democrats had the Courage to Lead.

Back during Watergate, the Republicans in the House and Senate understood the importance of loyalty to your Country, above loyalty to your political party. Even the Republicans were prepared to Impeach. Nixon resigned instead, to avoid himself the embarrassment. Watergate was about a burglary to gather dirt on a political opponent, and a subsequent attempt to cover it up. Nobody died because of it. Compared to the hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths of innocent people in Iraq, it seems like small potatoes. I'm not sure if these new Republicans of today will ever do the right thing. The magnitude of the Executive Branch abuse of power and crimes committed by the Bush administration, have far exceeded those of the Nixon administration. The Bush administration makes Nixon and his crew look like choir boys by comparison.

The main stream media has had a hand in this also. When they casually use terms like "enhanced interrogation techniques" instead of calling it what it is. TORTURE!Why is our MSM more concerned with Brittany, Paris, Hillary's tax returns, Obama's bowling scores.... than something this big? There should be much more news coverage about this and Congress should take its thumb out of its rear end and DO something about this for a "Real Change"!

We send a terrible message to the rest of the World by not holding these thugs in the White House accountable for something of this magnitude. We have now become as bad as the old USSR in the worlds eyes. Where the hell are you Congress?
