Blue Hampshire: "As A Matter of Conscience, Because the World Watches and Waits for Us"
As a matter of conscience, because the world watches and waits for us
Thanks to Deb Gibbons for this submission.
Because we live free.
New Hampshire Democratic Party NHDP, only one year and 6 months ago took charge in the state. The election turned the State from a Republican 2/3 majority to a Democrat 2/3 majority. From Red to Blue. Blue Hampshire.
A miracle did just that. The color changed, but the leadership did not. The fear still exists, and the Democratic Party of New Hampshire, NHDP is still red. Dare I say yellow, afraid to represent the people who voted them into their House seats?
Democrat Party leaders continue to show they can be intimidated by the Republicans of this state and by some Democrats in Washington. Why has the war not stopped? Intimidation by false threats and a reelection bid are not reasons to continue an illegal occupation in Iraq.
Late, Tuesday night, only one member (of three) on the NHDP Resolutions Committee voted with the voice of the people for an impeachment resolution to be brought before the State Party Convention. Maybe the voice of the people will be heard in protest outside the convention, or maybe the voice of the people will be heard through our votes in November.
Then in a vote, of 3-0, by the same three committee members, there was unanimous support for the Newbury, NH resolution: "be it resolved to bring to the US Congress an assessment of current imbalances in the Bush/Cheney administration; identify recent wrong doings and failures; appoint and administer a Commission of Accountability and Reconciliation; _indict and prosecute_ the guilty; and hear and address the rightful grievances of those wronged."
At the Convention, on Saturday, May 17, the State Democratic Party will allow only one minute to speak on their resolution, to save the world from tyranny. This is what Alex Lee, of Concord plans to say in the accounted time of one minute:
"Because justice is better served; because our Constitutional democracy has been decimated by this Administration; because dedicated Democrats are leaving the Party due to a failure of our leadership on this issue; because it is never too late to prevent, halt, or avoid abuses to the Constitution; because inaction could cause the drumbeat for war in Iran to rise; because torture doesn't only happen in the movies; because I could not face my grandchildren if I voted otherwise; because of very reasonable suspicion of bribery, treason, war-profiteering, and other high crimes and misdemeanors; because we have the right to petition our government; because the world watches and waits for us, I dissent and cast the lone Committee vote in favor of Rep. Hall's resolution as a petition for impeachment proceedings to begin in the US Congress."
The people do have a voice and want to be heard for a reason.
Because justice is better served by starting investigations and faithfully representing the majority of voters in 2006, who voted for candidates committed to stopping the war.
Because our Constitutional democracy has been decimated by this Administration, we must disagree with those who would fail to investigate.
We hear party leaders say, "We do support a resolution to begin investigations in Washington DC, because we have the right to petition our government." Yet we do not see them stand strong with courage and integrity to fight for the voice of the people, and we do not hear their committee vote to allow the resolution to support their own voice. Because dedicated Democrats are leaving the Party due to a failure of leadership, we require change.
If I knew my country tortured and killed, would I gain courage, because I could not face my grandchildren if I voted otherwise?
Because of very reasonable suspicion of bribery, treason, war-profiteering, and other high crimes and misdemeanors, can we support those who are afraid to speak the truth?
The message of the people in 2006 was clear and sharp - stop the Republican war machine - whatever it takes. Stop the war - a threat of a veto or a threat of losing the next election is not an excuse. There is no excuse for failing to live up to your oath to uphold the Constitution. Because, it is never too late to prevent, halt, or avoid abuses to the Constitution.
Because inaction could cause the drumbeat for war in Iran to rise. Isn't that enough to want to vote with the people?
As a matter of conscience, because the world watches and waits for us.
Inspiration for the title was motivated by those who have had the courage to act for peace and the fact that both Google and Wikipedia have had 'HR24' as their number one hit, worldwide. We realize this article may not make the mainstream media in NH or the US, but impeachment news is making press, worldwide.
