Still Two Carriers
By Sam Gardiner, Colonel, USAF (retired)
Woops! The Lincoln carrier group relieved the Truman in the Gulf, and we were told the Truman would be steaming home. That was the first week in May. Turns out the Truman is in the eastern Mediterranean. She made a port visit to Rhodes, Greece and was reported to be off Lebanon the end of the week.
This is an extension. Truman is into its seventh month deployed, cruises are normally six months.
It seems to me there is unusual carrier activity. Nimitz and Kitty Hawk are in the vicinity of the Philippines with no public affairs released mission except they could be used for operations to support Burma. In addition, on Saturday, a San Diego newspaper reported that the Ronald Reagan will depart there on Monday with unknown an destination.
