Obama Caves to Bush on Domestic Spying
By Bill Wolfe, NJ.com
This is not the change we were promised
Today the House voted to approve a FISA bill that would provide retroactive immunity for criminal domestic spying violations by Telecom companies and expand Bush domestic spying powers. Here is a link to the vote tally - NJ Republicans Ferguson, Freylinghuysen, Garrett, Saxton and Smith were joined by lone NJ Democrat Sires to vote yes in support of the bad bill - Democrats Andrews, Holt, Pallone, Pascrell, Payne, and Rothman stood up for the Constitution and opposed the bill.

Waiting until after the vote to take a position on the bill, Obama has finally come forward and issued a statement - looks like Obama reversed his prior strong opposition to both retroactive immunity for criminal acts by telecoms and expanded domestic spying powers. According to Glenn Greenwald at Salon:http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/
"Barack Obama got around to issuing a statement and -- citing what he calls "the grave threats that we face" -- he just announced that he supports this warrantless eavesdropping and telecom amnesty bill:
Given the grave threats that we face, our national security agencies must have the capability to gather intelligence and track down terrorists before they strike, while respecting the rule of law and the privacy and civil liberties of the American people. . . .
After months of negotiation, the House today passed a compromise that, while far from perfect, is a marked improvement over last year's Protect America Act. . . .It is not all that I would want. But given the legitimate threats we face, providing effective intelligence collection tools with appropriate safeguards is too important to delay. So I support the compromise, but do so with a firm pledge that as President, I will carefully monitor the program, review the report by the Inspectors General, and work with the Congress to take any additional steps I deem necessary to protect the lives -- and the liberty -- of the American people." [end Obama statement quote]
"Telling Americans that they have to give up basic constitutional rights in order to save ourselves from "the grave threats we face" sounds awfully familiar. Obama has obviously calculated that sacrificing the rule of law and the Fourth Amendment is a worthwhile price to pay to bolster his standing a tiny bit in a couple of swing states."

Obama and FISA
I'm not so sure that it is correct to say Obama caved on FISA.
Don't forget Obama was a Constitutional Law Professor. While the Bill that passed the House gives civil immunity to the telecoms, there is nothing in the Bill that gives criminal immunity. So the telecoms can still be sued for criminality and Obama understands that.
Also, Obama says he will try to take that provision out of the Bill when it reaches the Senate next week.
More imortantly, however, is that in the event that the Bush Crime Family creates a False Flag attack on the US prior to the election to help McCain, Obama would be stoned as soft on defense of this country.
This Is All About Israel
THe democrats are own by Israel and they carry the water of AIRPAC and Israel or they will not vote for them and this is a sad thing for Americans.
Show me the difference between Israel actions and policies then that of others they say are their enemies.
One Israel (with so type of leadership)stated one Israel citizen was worth more than a thousand of their so called enemies.
Tell me they are not bias or what ever you wish to call that statement.
They are not exposed for their corruption and Nuclear weapons and U.S. is supplying them daily with what ever they Demand.
Not The Only Game In Town!
John McBush and Barack Osame are not the only game in town. The only way to change the dovernment is to change the people in governemnt.
Fortunately we have true antiwar constitutional candidates in Ralph Nader and Bob Barr; www.votenader.org & www.bobbarr2008.com.
It is becoming increasingly clear that Barack Obama is just another big money, big government, big polit5ical party corporate clone. And then there is McCain, the dinosaur from the cold war, a playboy fighter pilot who could not make admiral like his daddy and granddaddy so he married money and went into politics.
Nader is a messenger and a spoiler, not a REAL candidate
I love Ralph Nader, but I don't like it when he runs for President. IF he really means it, he needs to get a Third Party MAJORITY, otherwise he is just doing what he always does, spreading his message, and spoiling.
IMPEACH BUSHCO & RICO PNAC/AIPAC>"OUT" ANTI-AMERICAN CABALS!
WE MUST DEFEAT MCCAIN!!! http://www.cafepress.com/bootthepnac
Bull hockey
Run Ralph. Run! Obama = duplicity within the One Party Corporate duopoly. This spoiler nonsense is an indication that people do not believe in democracy. The more Democrats accuse Nader of being a "spoiler" the more millions of us will work our butts off for him. Democrats, just like G.W. Bush, don't take responsibility for their failures. In 2000, Nader did not lose the election for Al Gore. The 300,000 Democrats in Florida who voted for G.W. Bush lost the election. Nader didn't lose Gore his home state of Tennessee. Gore did. Nader didn't lose Gore Bill Clinton's home state of Arkansas. Gore did. Gore lost to small brain. Shame on Gore. You go Ralph! The closer we get to the November elections the more obvious it will become that Obama is the same corporate shill taking Goldman Sachs' money that McCain is. It's time to break the addiction and stop being duped by Democratic Party promises, like Nancy Pelosi's promises that never happen.
Go Green!
Don't forget Cynthia McKinney!

Obama and FISA
I'm not so sure Obama caved on FISA. Remember that Obama was a Constitutional Law Professor. He understands that the FISA Bill passed yesterday in the House, only gives "civil immunity" to the telecoms. It does not give "criminal immunity" to them. As a result the telecoms can still be sued for criminality.
Also, Obama says he would try to take the "immunity clause" out of the Bill when it reaches the Senate next week.
More importantly, however, if the Bush Crime Family tries a false-flag attack on the US just prior to the elections to help McCain, the Republicans will point to this Bill and say the attack occurred because Obama didn't defend this country from attack when he had the opportunity by voting "yes" on the FISA Bill and he voted "no".
GET IT???
Compromise is NOT caving - compromise in Congress is TRADITION
Again , read Obama's statement , IN CONTEXT (Obama voted for a "marked improvement over last year's Protect America Act" :
"...After months of negotiation, the House today passed a compromise that, while far from perfect, is a marked improvement over last year's Protect America Act. . . .It is not all that I would want. But given the legitimate threats we face, providing effective intelligence collection tools with appropriate safeguards is too important to delay. Vote McBAMA!
The status quo MUST be protected!
That's NOT Change We Can Believe In!
After all is said and done, and Senator Barack Obama has criss crossed the nation hyping his campaign slogan of "Change We Can Believe In", it turns out McSame was right after all when he said "That's NOT Change We Can Believe In".
Not change?
If you don't believe Obama is about change, then the right-wing propaganda machine shows it is hard at work with their disinformation to prove Obama is just the same old same old McSame.
As Abraham Lincoln said, the empty barrel makes the most noise. Just keep beating the drum that Obama is NOT about change and you will show how empty and stupid you are.
Systemic change & 3rd parties
Obama is a Democrat who'll change his party but is less likely to change politics. His vested interest in the two-puppet party system is seen in his blueprint for change which promotes "bi-partisan" solutions and limits 300 million citizens to two parties.
This mindset is what creates the "dirty, old politics" that McClellan decries and Obama ostensibly opposes. I admire his stance on civil rights and defending the Voting Rights Act, yet he is mum on
#28 UNDERMINING FREE and FAIR ELECTIONS
The President has conspired to undermine free and fair
elections by obstructing and interfering with the Justice
Department’s independence in legal oversight of
elections.
#29 VOTING RIGHTS ACT VIOLATIONS
The President has conspired to willfully corrupt and
manipulate the electoral process of the United States in
connection with the 2004 and 2006 elections?
Obama's change is hamstrung so long as he takes marching orders from Hoyer, Pelosi, and Reid and does not seriously address electoral and voting reform.
53% of Americans -- especially political independents -- thought the US needed a third political party,

OBAMA DID IN FACT, CAVE IN ON FISA, NOBODY SHOULD BE DELUSIONAL
I don't understand the; SUPEROBAMA IS GONNA SAVE US concept.
He is another politician, nothing more, nothing less. He will sell his soul for the almighty dollar, and the position. He's sucking the GOP's 'don't like McCain' base to get them to vote for his Constitution Shredding ass.
anyone who thinks that, if there IS an election in November, and OBAMA does, in fact, WIN THE ELECTION, that any of this nightmare is just going to fade away, is sadly, delusionally mistaken, and quite goddamned stupid.
there isn't going to be any rollback of the Patriot (enabling act) Act bullshit, or the aggregious violations under the John Warner Defense Act (Patriot Act ON STEROIDS).
and, to put it bluntly, Iran is still going to be bombed, tens of thousands of INNOCENT IRANIANS will DIE, and TENS OF THOUSANDS OF SAILORS ON THOSE CARRIERS WILL BE PAYING FOR THAT...
don't be daydreaming about this going away. It's too far along for it to be rolled back. We are way down the rabbit hole, and the trip is just beginning to be a BAD ONE!
