San Francisco Green Party endorses Cindy Sheehan run against Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi
Greens will be strong ally
SAN FRANCISCO (June 24, 2008) – The San Francisco Green Party – a powerful force in progressive San Francisco politics – has endorsed the independent run by peace activist Cindy Sheehan against Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D) in November.
The SFGP decision means Sheehan – who lost her son Casey in the war in Iraq – will have a strong ally in her bid to upset Pelosi in the 8th Congressional District. Greens hold several key San Francisco elected positions, including SF Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, and Mark Sanchez, president of the SF Board of Education, who is running for a supervisor slot.
"We are glad she is taking on Speaker Pelosi, who has been a huge disappointment even to her Democratic Party base," said Erika McDonald, spokesperson for the SFGP.
"We admire Sheehan's bravery in standing up to the corrupt two-party system. She has suffered immeasurable loss because of the unwillingness of our government to stand up for justice," added McDonald.
The Greens, who are not putting up a candidate of their own in the race, hope to provide some needed muscle for Sheehan, who must collect about 10,000 signatures by Aug. 8 to have her name put on the ballot. As of this past week, she had about 3,500 signatures.
The goals of the Green Party and Sheehan are similar – protect U.S. troops in Iraq by ending the war now, a position rejected by Pelosi and other Democrats in Congress who say they are opposed to the war, but continue to fund billions for it.
Greens, like Sheehan, have endorsed the impeachment of Pres. George Bush, vice-president Dick Cheney and other Bush Administration officials. Sheehan also comes from working class roots, which compares favorably to the Green Party's strong social justice platform.

I am counting on Cindy Sheehan to remove Nancy Pelosi from the Congress and free us from her false claim to represent America. What a terrible pity it is that the first woman Speaker of the House is the worst Speaker in recorded history. Such tragic irony it is. I will be stimulating Cindy's campaign soon.
A million thanks to Cindy for facing down the evil that killed her son. May justice run down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream. Cindy is the one!

... is that if she were too impeach, Cheney then Bush, something a majority of Americans want, and something that is her Constitutional obligation to do...
...she could be the first woman President of the united States. Not only that but she would be a hero for all history for stepping up and stopping this slide to fascism.
She has history within her grasp and millions of us begging her to do it, and she just lets it slip away like sand through her fingers.
All to protect this president? I can't fathom anything that is more disappointing for us and probably for her as well. whatever deal she has made has got to be eating her up inside.
That's right.
You gotta hand it to her, Nancy Pelosi is one dumb woman. It makes one realize that the government is just one big insiders club. They pick the people they want and we vote for them. Time for a change. What BS!
Cindy will be a real change but will the people of San Francisco fall for the same old BS? Will the media make up some tall tale about Cindy? Will we even have elections?

I just wonder if a lot of dirt was dug up on a lot of these
people during the illegal spying and is being used to
blackmail them. We'll probably never know the real
truth behind all of this madness.
