Congress Members' View of Impeachment Improving Dramatically
National Impeachment Network, http://nationalimpeachment.org
A spokesperson for a National Impeachment Network (NIN) lobbying delegation, which has been meeting with Congress members in Washington DC this week, said "There is clear evidence that the mood of Congress has shifted. Impeachment hearings could start this month. It appears that hearings will likely focus on impeachable offenses not requiring testimony and lengthy investigations because evidence is on the public record -- the administration's refusal to honor subpoenas, the nearly 800 signing statements used to alter the intent of legislation passed by Congress, and the deliberate misinformation given to Congress to get approval for going to war. We are very optimistic that Cheney and Bush are finally going to be held to account and investigated."
Said another member of the NIN delegation, "The reception we've received has been positively amazing. Every Representative we've met with supports impeachment strongly. Our team is working hard and will continue lobbying efforts through the month of July. We'll be there tomorrow when Kucinich introduces his new resolution for impeaching Bush for the deliberate intelligence deceptions leading to the Iraq War.And Judiciary Committee Chair John Conyers invited the group to sit in on the Judiciary Committee hearing where Karl Rove is expected to be cited for contempt of Congress. Conyers told the group that he would like to deliver the inherent contempt citation to Rove himself. This is incredibly exciting. The majority of Americans favor impeachment and want the Democratic Party to listen to the grassroots. Congress members are going to insist on restoring their oversight authority. We should take heart that the breakthrough we've been seeking appears to finally be happening."

THIS IS AWESOME!!!
Without the efforts of the grassroots AND DENNIS KUCINICH, the drive to impeach may never have reached this point. When the above TRULY starts to happen, David, can you turn this site into a drive to write-in Dennis?! Talk about a grassroots voice! Even if it is impossible to pull enough insightful and aware people to elect the man, WHAT AN IMPRESSION it would leave with him getting some big numbers in November!
(Am I dreaming again? Can't help it--I have an image of the U.S. with D.K. at the helm!)
Yeah, you're probably
Yeah, you're probably dreaming. Enjoy it while you can...waking up is hard to do.
turn dreams into reality
Yes, it's gonna take an awful lot of pressure from the public to get Congress to impeach.
It probably won't happen.
But if we do nothing, it definitely won't happen.
It is a long shot, but this is the best opportunity we've had and will probably be the last one - we should not waste it!
And the closer we get to impeachment, the more people will come on board. If we keep up the momentum the movement may reach critical mass.
So call the Judiciary Committee now!
At worst, you have wasted 5 minutes of your time.
At best, Bush & Cheney get impeached and America starts heading back away from fascist dictatorship and towards democracy.
Too good to be true!
They say if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I will believe this when I see it. I HOPE I'm wrong!

You're probably wrong.
You're probably wrong.
If this is true.....
then why did the Democrats catipulate to the worst president this country probably has ever had??
I still hold off hope that the democrats in Congress will wake up and yes to impeachment, of Cheney first and then Bush!
I realize that the FISA bill gave the telecoms only protection to civil action (which is bad enough) and can still be subject to criminal charges, as we all hope they still will!
I was angry at first to Barack Obama voting for it, but I think I can understand why he did it, I just hope that it is all part of a grand plan to bring about the fixing of our Constitution!
I don't believe that this country can move to the future easily without the iron bars of a prison cell slamming shut with Bush/Cheney/Rove/Rummy/Rice/Ashcroft/Gonzales, etc, etc behind them!
captfoster - See me at MMfA as well!
After all the speeches about
After all the speeches about the President's illegal wiretapping program and the disappointing vote on FISA I would expect that all the Senators voting no would now be supporting impeachment, especially Feingold, Leahy and Dodd.
That depends!
These people all have hidden agendas. They vote according that what their corporate financial contributers want. The telecommunication companies wanted off the hook and they still want the Bush corruption machine in place. It is probably like the Iraq occupation funding bill. They allow some to vote NO and yet be sure the measure will pass by tying it to the G.I. Bill. This makes all the corporate butt-kissers look good for the uneducated voters! The "rubber chicken" (Pelosi) is an expert at that crap!
