These stinkin' "think tanks" do not think for ME !
Ya know Dave, I'm beginning to think that Dwight Eisenhower was on to these think tanks long ago and tried to warn us of them along with the "Military Industrial Complex" in his famous farewell address, because the more times I listen to it , the more intrigued I am about Ike's other coined phrase "SCIENTIFIC -TECHNOLOGICAL ELITE". These following two lines in Ike's speech lead me to believe that he was already well aware of private think tanks usurping our power as a people when it came to matters of war and peace, when they should be left to Congress to decide based on LEGITIMATE intelligence agencies , FBI, CIA, IAEA, etc.:
"...The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present – and is gravely to be regarded.
Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite..."
When did these self-annointed self-serving think tanks first come about ? Apparently, at the very least, since the 1950's !

That's more than a little over the top for me, apparition, and pretty hard for me to swallow... we are fighting Nazi types today (neocons) with this McCarthyism (spying on Americans and bypassing FISA, torture, etc) , because they think we are too liberal, progressive , whatever version of "commies" they propagandize or cook up on any given day. I was on "security stand-by" for a recent airline flight and could not automatically print my own ticket, had to be at the ticket desk earlier than usual, and was told I was totally chosen at random by Homeland Security thingy (yeah , right).
I am aware of Vietnam War causing much angst in 60's because soldiers were drafted to fight "commies" till 58000 Americans died to no avail , but I blame LBJ for that, not Ho Chi Minh. Not sure exactly about the rest of what you are saying, so I will google "Operation Keelhaul" .

Thanks for your recent Ike quotes.
Though I can't supply sources, during this year have read, perhaps here on ADS, or "heard on TV" that Ike was against A-bombing the Japanese.
In Europe he inspected the concentration camps because, to paraphase, If I don't go myself nobody will ever believe it.
Maybe Ike hasn't yet reached the regard by historians he will someday.

McCarthy knew what Ike did, the public didn't.
It was me, joe martin, who posted to you a comment about McCarthy, and to answer the gentleman about Ike all in one post here it is. This is what Ike and communism, ie, McCarthy hearings have to do with this discussion. Unless you get the word of truth in journalism out to the people, they are helpless to act and we are in the dark.
What I'm pointing out to you is this. Ike got between 2,000,000 and 5,000,000 people killed who were fighting ON OUR SIDE with his stupid 'Operation Keelhaul', but how the hell would the US Public know, when the only newsreels shown were those of the Jews headed off in rail road cars to concentration and death camps. They never showed the public the newsreels of those anti-communist millions being shipped back to communist countries of origin to die.

I never liked the way innocent actors, actresses, Hollywood and other writers were ruined by the FBI Blacklist. It was a damned abomination! More likely, it was used to target certain individuals who were disliked by some persons higher up, and the specter of communism was then, merely what the so-called Al Queda of today is.
But you can be certain Joe McCarthy also knew, among lots of other things, what Ike and 'Operation Keelhaul' did and how many pro-American people were slaughtered from communism after their repatriation. But ---HOW THE DAMNED HELL DO YOU THINK HE COULD POSSIBLY GET IT OUT TO THE PUBLIC ????!!!!

Joemartin, you are right joe, this is an UNCONSCIONABLE secret, kept for over fifty years! Secrets are the undoing of society , ANY society, not just American society. I am beginning to believe that there should NEVER be classified "anything"... who does the "classified" designation protect, certainly NOT the people. I never thought I would learn of a slaughter of millions from the last century that I had never heard of before, but you have opened my eyes. Not quite sure where Ike and McCarthy come into the picture, Wiki mentions neither one. Not sure if "Operation Keelhaul" was named that at the time, but the operation was a directive of the Yalta Conference. But the millions executed, THEY are mentioned...finally (and as you say joe, NEVER by the media).

Ike basically botched up WWII in case you don't know his true record. Much of what he did not only ruined General 'Georgie' Patton, but helped the communist side of the world to a great extent. If you have not read about 'Operation Keelhaul', I believe it was called, go and do just a little reading and understand what a morally deficient, or dumb, or ignorant leader Ike really was, militarily, and you will begin to understand the bigger picture. Ike was a world player, not just a U.S. leader.
As far as the Nazis which Ike knew surrounded him by the time he left office, they were brought in under 'Operation Paperclip' by the former OSS, Office of Strategic Services, which was the forerunner of the C.I.A., and Ike knew he'd probably suffer the same fate as 'Georgie' Patton, who, ostensibly, may have been killed by communists rather than Nazis, if he did not play ball.
Many, if not most, persons in the general public still don't understand what a capitulation the US suffered of World War II , Korean War, and Viet Nam War. This country has had and still has a virtual gun to our heads and the heads of our leaders for a long time, and Joseph McCarthy, who may have gone somewhat overboard in the HUAAC hearings, was actually correct.
People, generally, still cannot get the truth because the Russian-Israeli Mafia apparently 'enforces' for the mainslime, bought off U.S. Media, and vital information is blacked out and literally kept from public view, so unless citizens are willing to take time to read foreign publications, historical documents, and go to the internet, they won't know at all what is actually going on around them.
