Italian Police Violently Assault Opponents of Proposed New US Military Base

While our fellow Americans are largely not capable of being shamed by Italian violence used in defense of an empire they are unaware of at a time when identical violence accompanies any large political gathering in the United States, millions of us admire your courage, determination, and discipline. If we ever win the struggle for a disarmed globe it will be through nonviolence and the resolve to press on in the face of apparently certain defeat. -- David Swanson

It would be great if we heard

our corporate candidates for leader of the American Hegemon offer a statement regarding this episode.

Wanna bet they will be SILENT (and therefore complicit)?

Saw Nader in Milwaukee yesterday. He puts McCain AND Obama to shame....

Is this the New World Order that is spoken of?

Quelling the voices of the people -- everywhere? "Police States" popping up everywhere!

Is this the result of cult-like happenings "behind the scenes," such as the gatherings by the Bildeburgs? Where is all this ideaology coming from? Or, have WE, the U.S.A., that is, simply shown the world by our "pre-emptiveness" the way of the future?

It seems our modus operandi and the "new rule of law" (injected into our society, government, etc. for near eight years now) is ALL one of "pre-emptive" thought. In other words, strike out against this country or that because THEY MIGHT process production of nuclear weapons; strike out against individuals, groups, because THEY MIGHT commit to riot, or they might commit to protest!

Has the United States, in it's hegemonic behavior, simply laid out a "how to" to other countries, utilizing "bully" tactics to gain a stronghold on their peoples? Was it needed before? Is it needed now? Just questions!

How sick it all is and it just keeps getting sicker!

Not so violent compared to St. Paul

The Italian police in the video were apparently trying to drag the sitting protestors off the road that they were blocking. Inevitably there was pushing, shoving and yelling. Some clubs were swung. Yet, the majority of the protestors seen were able to remain in place, and the video cameras kept rolling.

Contrast this with the recent crack down on protesters at the RNC convention in St. Paul, where tear gas and pepper spray were used indiscriminately, people were clubbed and handcuffed for no reason and journalists were assaulted and arrested. I get the distinct impression from this video that the Italian police were not enjoying the situation and wished they could be anywhere else, doing something genuinely useful. In contrast, the police in St. Paul pursued their work with a militaristic zeal that was chilling.
